RaptorReed
There was 165 of them there in 2007, but the Military has been adamant of destroying all those that don't find homes in Museums, to keep spare parts from finding their way to Iran. If you look at updated aerial photos of DM, there are 5 Tomcats left. Iranian F-14A, Iran still flies them actively as well as the F-4 Phantoms. Phantoms made some news recently as they are dropping bombs on ISIS. 2 Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
^^ Ah yes....... US helicopter's being pushed off ships to fit other resources like men onboard to get out of Vietnam. A lot of $$ gone in that whole endeavour. Most but not all were VNAF 'copters, but I admit that many were good hearted USAF and US Army, [and uncredited Navy or USMarines?] pilots trying to save their ARVN assets and their Vietnamese Like "Operation Saber Tooth" in 1962. Don't ask. I will not respond. 1 Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
That is sure as shit is not the one that washed up on the East side of Diego Darcia's lagoon, British Indian Ocean Territory to be politically corect, of the main Island. A PBY4 per my excellent source, a retired Chief Petty Officer USN. 1 Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
Back story? Russial "WIG", Wing in Ground Effect vehicle. Note the missile launch tubes on top to soften up the landing zone before beaching. Skims the surface effect layer rather than actually flying. "Starred" in one of Tom Clancy's books in which a Russian General tried to invade Sweden as I recall. Quote Link to comment
