earlyvws
Did 1 door tonight. Here is a break down for you. Step 1: Remove carpet. Some of u may not have this option. Ok none of you have this option. Installing the seal is pretty self explanatory. But if someone really needs pics I will try to remember to take some when I do the other side. But here is the rivet and the tool to do it for those who are wondering what the tool is to do this. And all done. I used the Aussie vent window seals. They fit well. Was very easy to install and fits nice around glass. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
I didn't have that carpet option, but someone did cram & glue an extra stainless channel & felt into the front of my driver side channel - something from a different vehicle. It seems they also re-ground the window as the glass is too narrow now and doesn't seal! I assume you already had that rivet squeezer from other jobs? That rivet looks great! Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Yeah I bought this tool a long time ago. VW's vent windows have the same rivet. I got tired of this part of building a car coming out poorly. So now the tool pays for itself. But it was very expensive when I bought it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Just wondering about the manufacturer and model # of the rivet tool? And the manufacturer and part # for the rivets? Please this would make the job look professional. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Here is one, I think it should come with a handle but pic doesn't show it. U also got to buy dies. I have flat ones and the ones u need are the ones with the concave on one and a concave with a dimple on the other. The rivets are just regular semi-tubular rivets. I think I used 3/16" ones. They sell them at ACE hardware maybe Orchard Supply if u have that in ur area. http://www.ustool.com/tp888-heavy-duty-hand-rivet-squeezer-p-800-l-en.html U insert the combo of dies u need in tool. Dimple side goes into the open end of rivet. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
U could buy the dies and make the squeeze part out of vice grips if ur only goal is vent windows. The dies very in price I think it was between $5 and $10 each. Quote Link to comment
wayno
I bet with the proper piece made, a double flair brake line tool could be used also, the one that finishes the flare. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Can you read the part numbers off the dies? Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
SM200-4305 = dimple die AT108A-R-5/32 AN470 = concave die Probably could get a bigger concave die as this one is a little small on the head and causes a ring depression. So I'm guessing the 5/32 is the size of concave, so look for something about 1/8" bigger 2 Quote Link to comment
Steve240z
Really like the carpet, looks very well done. Wondering if you could give us some details? What type of carpet from Home Depot? How many pieces? Did you have to do any sewing? Thanks Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
I did not sew anything. I was putting a binding on but it was too thick for my machine. I made 5 pieces. 1 for the tunnel from front to back. 2 for the humps on the firewall and 2 for the floor one on each side of the tunnel from front to back and it overlaps the center one. Pretty much how VWS are done. Carpet is on a roll at hd and the have green, dark grey, and beige. Quote Link to comment
Steve240z
Thanks for the info, that helps a lot. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Thank you for the rivet tool Info. This will be another well done build. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Since this rivet seems to be an issue. I have an idea on how to make a tool for this job. I can make one and test it. I could sell it for $20 for the tool holder and u purchase the dies yourself. I might make 5 of them. If this interests you let me know. I have a pretty good concept in my head that it think will work out nice and better then you could make without a mill. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
I was thinking that maybe this common tool could be used with dies and a die holder for the fixed end. 1 Quote Link to comment

earlyvws
Started making a steering wheel hub. It's not working like I expected. I cut the center out of a beat OG steering wheel and for some reason that one doesn't go down as far as the other stock wheel. Got some figuring out for this. But got it to at least test fit. It was a lot of work just getting in to the show and out. Had a good time and saw some cool cars I've never heard of before. Nice to finally meet MrBigTanker (Ray). U want me to work on ur shit, help me find a way to get my wife to find a job down here! 1 Quote Link to comment
