Laecaon
Dont buy Nissan Bearings. I have seen lab reports for both KA and CA motors showing tolerances of the bearings being poorer than Federal Mogul or Clevite. Also they were packaged worse and therefor had scratching on the bearings out of the package. Other brands are also multilayer. 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
simple as that... lol, you dont even have to pull the pan if you get a body panel puller that welds the little rod to the metal.. its an idea, and lots of places have em.. spot weld the little rod on it, use a puller to stretch the pan down a tiny bit, grind little rod off pan when youre done.. or you can pull the pan and clearance it that way.. banzai510(hainz)
doing a long rod motor this is soemtimes common of rod bolt hitting pan. Quote Link to comment
smoke
I have fought this myself, but on a domestic v8, with rod ends hitting the side of the block AND the camshaft. No picnic, but if it's just the pan with you, that should be easy enough. It must be just hardly touching it, so a very small pull in the right spot should fix you up. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Pull the pan. Ity'll have a mark if hitting, if not then replace the bearing(s) Quote Link to comment

metalmonkey47
I'll be back more on this later... I'm at work. Roads are iced over, were under a state of emergency again here in ATL. wouldn't this have been an issue from day 1?? Why would the rod bolt all the sudden start to touch the pan? It would do it right off the bat. If it's new, you most likely have something else going on. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
I tightened the oil pan recently, wonder if its too close? Idk. Man this sucks, but I'll figure it out tomorrow Quote Link to comment
smoke
That crossed my mind and I should have asked that. Yes, the gasket smashing just a tiny bit more could do it. Quote Link to comment
smoke
It's a bit hard to tell from video sound, but it sounded a little deeper to me than a rod touching the pan. Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
i use right stuff on my pan .... .i hate pan gaskets ....... but this is why mine did .... no gasket makes a big difference hit right away ...... but if it started hitting pan out fo blu e.. not sure i would trust it ... needs to be looked at Quote Link to comment
smoke
That 'right stuff' is awesome. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Nah, I'm not gonna play around. I'll be leaving it overnight at work, and dropping it In the morning. Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
That 'right stuff' is awesome. lol remember mentioning having to pound my flange on my pan back flat ........ right stuff is a bitch to get the seal broke to remove the pan .... i use two long scrapers and drive them down the flange till i get its free enough to pull off..... but i rarely have a pan gasket leak ... unless to stoned to remember to pound flange straight again .. jus ssayin....my redos are cuz asleep t the wheel .... well most the l20 motor fiasco was more than that easy ... smoke
Yeah, I ruined (and I mean fuckin RUINED) the diff cover on my Jeep when pulling it off. Yes, I probably could have saved it, but a smashed hand and a face full of sand made my go into a rage. I rolled it up like a burrito. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Well here it is. crank wobble. Keyway fell out when the crank pulley came off Quote Link to comment
smoke
So it was just the pulley flopping around a bit? Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Yup! Ruined the crank, and the pulley is trashed. Gonna end up stripping the motor and basically rebuilding it. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Wrong size key was installed? Quote Link to comment

metalmonkey47
Wrong size key was installed? no clue, didn't appear to be, but I'll know more later Wow, that's horrible. It's that bad huh? looking like it. I'm gonna try and get this crank to a machine shop and see if anyone can slot mill it for a better keyway. Might order a dampner from summit. Quote Link to comment
