Rogue Ratsun
Hey guys, been lurking and learning a lot here lately, so I thought I'ld share my ponderance with you and get some feedback..... Debating getting a '75 620. It has: L16, '81 280z gearbox, disk brakes & ball joints off a Hardbody. In my driveway I have an '89 Suzuki Swift Gti (G13b / DOHC / 100hp), engine bolts perfectly to Suzuki Samurai 5-speed transmission. I was debating putting the engine into my 3-cyl Chevy Sprint, but I've gotten fond of the 49MPG's. So the Sprint will get the body kit, hood, lights, bumpers, sunroof, F&R disk brakes, suspension, & interior. I was debating selling the engine/leftovers as the samurai guys like dropping the engines into the 4x4's. But I'ld love a 620 with a sportier attitude, and the thought of marrying my 'leftovers' into a 620, and shifting at 7,500rpm sounds pretty 'sporty' in my head. :-) Haven't measured anything yet, but noticed the Suziki tranny shifts from the tailshaft like the Datsuns. (The engine also seems to like forced air as well :-$ ). Lol Would this be a shitload of headaches? It works soo good on paper :-) PS- anyone have the dimension from bell housing to shifter for a 280zx tranny?? Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Maybe this will help. This is a 521, with a long shaft five speed transmission. You can see how far back the shifter is from the stock location. Quote Link to comment
Llittle_Llama
Honestly that seems like a lot of work for nothing. I would read up on the other Nissan motor swaps and go that route. Sell the parts and the Samurai and get a running motor to swap in. Easier in the long run and less $$$ wasted ;) Quote Link to comment
GRpufnstuf
So except for fuel economy an L16-L20 will make nearly the same power and redlined near 7k rpm if you wanna spin it. Then I wonder about the torque that 1.3 makes. Probably not much. 620 is a light truck but maybe not Swift light. I do remember a motor trend build that had the Gti on nitrous (I think) drag racing a Ferrari 348 back in the day. Pretty neat little cars Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
If the L motor runs good ....leave it alone & enjoy the ride. Quote Link to comment
MOTO
Just my own opinion, but I wouldn't go through all of the work to swap that 1.3 to get a 100 horse engine... 100 horse is really easy to achieve these days, and even though 7500 rpm "sounds" cool, it doesn't mean "go fast" or "sporty". If the pickup runs good as it is, then I would drive the wheels off of it before doing anything to it... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
L16 is 96hp and 7000 rpm L20B is 110hp 1.3 liter is.neither. just rev up the L! Quote Link to comment

Boxcar
Does this answer you're question? pulled this G13 ( torque - less ) . Replaced with this ( HUGE GAINS in hp and torque ) N Never look back. Quote Link to comment
BlackBird620
I say go for it if that's what you want to do might not be as powerful as other swaps but it'll be 100% different Quote Link to comment
