RatVonDude
Dear Rat world, Just made an amazing discovery. Recently bought an old TCM forklift with nissan motor and realized alot of the parts are interchangable with my 1973 521pick up ( L-16. ) Old Forklift yards are goldmines for Datsuns. Also people will pay you to get rid of them. Beats pick and pull for some things. My new propane Ratsun forklift runs sooo smooth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 Quote Link to comment
cxune
I dig this. What parts specifically do you think you might swap? Any plans to power your truck with the bottled stuff? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The propane heads may be cast iron instead of aluminum. Wasn't there a turbo exhaust manifold? Datsunaholic may have posted something about this. Quote Link to comment

RatVonDude
I dig this. What parts specifically do you think you might swap? Any plans to power your truck with the bottled stuff? This forklift has the stock l-16 fan blade, radiator, distributer, way cool carb covers, the engine is an ( H 1 ? something ) looks alot like L-16, both four cylinder, same battery, cool knobs and gagets, it has one brake master cylinder simular to 521, half a brake system...... The oil cover cap is really sharp, hoping it fits my 521, looks simular. Probably tons of little things like bolts and caps, has that post war japanese military look. Quote Link to comment
RatVonDude
Propane burns so clean, everything looks un-filth ridden stock. Would propane work on L-16 ?would it benefit? Don't want to explode in a plastic tunnel................ Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
LPG was a factory option with the L16 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Propane is normally gaseous so mixes easily with air. It contains less energy so not as powerful as gasoline. Quote Link to comment
67411sss
H20 motor, it's good for roadster guys Quote Link to comment
HRH
Don't forget you'll need about what, 3x as much propane to equal the power offered by gasoline? At 3x the cost. It does burn a heck of a lot cleaner though. Quote Link to comment
cdub42
To whom it may concern Jayden Choke AKA, goldenboy...... FTL again why not? that thing drug my broken truck off the freeway, it get the forklift award in my book Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I think it burns way cleaner than a gas carb (maybe like EFI?) and about 20% less energy but it's like alcohol, you need more compression to get the most out of it. It's cheaper but you get less from it. Larger displacement or turbo will help. Quote Link to comment
