datzenmike
You really need the front half of the driveshaft from a '78-'79 620, not a 720. Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Welcome, looks like a nice truck. You should be able to get either the 720 or the 620 shaft shortened by a driveshaft place if you are having troubles finding the piece you need. :) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good point, it may be cheaper in the end. Also keep an eye out for a pre '78 grill. Once you see it you'll know why. Quote Link to comment
djpapo
thank u guys one more question how can i get the right measurements to get the driveshaft shorten ? n i think ive seen the grill ur talking about but only online lol Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good question. Ask the shop who's doing it what they want. Usually it's measired center of U joint to center of U joint. Take yours apart, remove both U joints and compare side by side or take both to the shop. Quote Link to comment

Is this the one with the rings that protrude out around the headlights? Like this? As for the driveshaft I have one off a '79 620 for sale. It would be the correct size you need. Let me know if you want to do that route instead. I live in Tracy, CA so not too far from you. Also have a collection of parts so if you need anything else let me know. 1 Quote Link to comment

laotsu
you sure you want a Z-car tranny in a truck? Wayno says he kept burning his out and finally started building L series truck five speeds. I guess an LZ23 is more than the L20b though. Quote Link to comment

Not as a regular driver. Post pics of Zcar trans to verify what it is. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Z car transmissions are identical to truck transmissions, except in gear ratio. So there's no difference in strength. In fact in '77-78 the only difference was the speedometer drive cog- even the ratios were the same. Now, using a dogleg (car transmission) would be a different issue. Those are the weak ones. I've blown up 2 of them, and I don't even drive them hard. Quote Link to comment
