angliagt
Is anyone else tired of the "20 KDT",or whatever engine designations, without any explanation? I have no idea what you're talking about when these are used - (exceptions are A13,A14,A15,L16,L18,L20). - Doug Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
They all have a purpose. VG30DETT VG = Engine code 30 = 3.0L Displacment D = DOHC E = EFI TT = Twin Turbo Don't know much for Honda's and Toyota's and such, but Nissan I know pretty well. Quote Link to comment

Z20S and Z20E ...S means carburetor if there are models of this engine that might have something else like multi port EFI (E) Z20, Z22 and Z24....On the 720 truck all are carb so the S is often left off and it is assumed that it's carb. Z24i ... the i indicates throttle body injection. T..... can also indicate twin carbs as well as turbo. R..... supercharger Quote Link to comment
OkieRA29
Toyota is about the same. Take the AE86 Corolla engine, the 4AGE. 4A means it is the 4th generation of the A series engine. G means double overhead cam and 'E' stands for fuel injected. Here is pretty much a complete breakdown of some of Toyota's more popular engines... oh yeah, copied and pasted from another board. A - found in many 80's Corollas, MR2's and some Celicas. - I4, between 1.6 and 1.8LUZ - found in some Soarers. - V8, 4.5LJZ - found in Soarers and Supras - I6, between 2.5 and 3.5LS - found in Celicas and MR2's - I4, 2LT - found in many 70's Corollas and assorted commercial vehicles.R - found in 70's to Mid 80's Celicas, Coronas and Hiluxes - I4, between 1.8 and 2.4LG - found in some Supras and Soarers. - I6, 3LZZ - found in 90's Celicas and some more recent Corollas and MR2s. - I4, between 1.8 and 2LM - found in 80's Supras, Cressidas, Crowns, - I6, between 2.4 and 3L Toyota post-hyphen Codes (1970's onward): C - Equipped with an emissions control systems. The C notation is also associated with California, as at one stage California had the most strict emissions controls in the continental USA. Often mistakenly assumed to stand for 'carburettor'.U - Equipped with emissions control systems for Japan. (The U notation has also been associated with the introduction of Unleaded fuel in Japan.)E - Electronic fuel injection. (EFI)i - Single point fuel injection.F - Dual overhead cam (DOHC) head: 'economy' type narrow valve angle head.G - Dual overhead cam (DOHC) head: sports type wide valve angle head.L - Transversely mounted in vehicle.T - Turbocharged.Z - SuperchargedD - Diesel.B - Twin Carburettors. Only used in non-twincam engines, this code is now obsolete.R - Air injection.LPG - runs on LPG.S = Direct injection (along with fuel injection - ie 1JZFSE So, the engine in my Celica is a 20R. Simple, it is the 20th generation of the R series engine. The motor in my Cressida wagon is the 5M-GE, which means 5th gen M series dual overhead cam, fuel injection. Quote Link to comment

decoy12
KA24DET? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
KA motor 2,4Liter displacement Dual cam Multi port EFI Turbo The KA24DET doesn't exist as a factory motor I believe, at least not here. If you turbo a KA24DE it would be called a KA24DET. I'm building a mixture of engine parts to make a KA/Z23S ? Quote Link to comment
