I'm BLUE
I bought a full plastic dash cap a few years ago for my 240Z. Just laid it over the original dash without gluing it down just to see if I liked it. The whole thing warped very, very seriously in a matter of perhaps two months and I had to throw it away. Guess I should have glued it down if I'd wanted it to work. After that failed, I refinished my original dash and that is holding up decently. Thanks for the heads up blue72 !! I'm sorry to hear that... I believe I will take action in that case. ... exactly ... that's exactly what I was "planning" (time always dis-appears) to do as well was repair and refinish the existing dash instead !!! (good call). I was hoping to be able to pull the dash out this winter when I stop driving it and do just so ^^^ :) How many man hours do you think it took you start to finish ? Yes....a small discreet shift light would be much better...... ....i just hate that obnoxious, giant, yellow light.... .....small pinhole blue light sounds perfect! lol .. it does doesn't it :D Yeah I'm not a fan of the big shift light in a small japanese car either. Thanks ! I'm hoping the small pinhole-size blue shift light works out  coming along good man!!! Thanks man  !! slowly but surely ... lol Quote Link to comment

I'm BLUE
Cleaning parts ... have to do a final pass/inspect and final rinse on all of them... 018 by 71240z, on Flickr I didn't get to clean the oil pan out as much as I wished to tonight , but plan to make sure I do tomorrow or soon... 019 by 71240z, on Flickr Michael at NAPA hooked me up with some plasti-gauge .... :D ... (2) other competitors didn't have what I needed ..... nor did they offer to order it oh well lol. 020 by 71240z, on Flickr ^^^ Will be checking the bearings here soon hopefully ! Plasti-gauge isn't my favorite way , but the crank gets to stay in + the compression is good on the engine etc etc. :) Thanks for reading ! Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
What would you use instead of plasti-gauge?? Don't think I've used anything else..... 1 Quote Link to comment

Busta Nut
Ahhhh yes....of course..... I thought there was something else you were thinking of.... I don't think that's necessary unless you're building the most perfect engine you can for racing or something...... Nice.....but not necessary..... 1 Quote Link to comment

Plasti-gauges give you a great ball park figure. But I wouldn't machine anything solely from numbers I got from a plasti-gauge. 2 Quote Link to comment

I'm BLUE
Well wen't to do my plasti-gauge tonight .. just before pulling off any main/rod caps ... decided to grab the crankshaft and pushed in/out-wards to check quickly for any serious play ... there's play in the thrust-bearing :-/ ... how much ? ... I won't know until I find the dial indicator w/magnetic base .. pffff  ... although I can see it by eye .... knowing me I'll be putting in new bearings if all measures out well ... engine wasn't knocking at all before being pulled. 021 by 71240z, on Flickr So... shortly after a short failured search for the dial-indicator.... I decided to tap the head-bolt threads. Takes a lot of time to do it right , but it's well worth it. 020 by 71240z, on Flickr Not much work. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Haha, love the new name :) So did the machine shop ever finish that modification for the KA trans? If you wouldn't mind sharing the info, I think something like that would really help the LZ guys that are making serious torque. I know MM47 blew his first trans. Quote Link to comment
