4 hours? I'll custom the mount for 1 hour ($80) charge

You got a deal. Literally. I'll pay you $100 if you're being serious.

I would like to keep the KA trans because I know it will be strong enough for the KA, and after all, it was made for it....

They are the same. But different for different vehicles.

We both have A10s.

His L. Mine Z.

His sedan. Mine wagon.

Just have an L project coming up and this is the only driveline I have.

So the splines would be the same? I'm guessing they are the same automatic transmissions too?

datzenmike, if I'm understanding you correctly I could go to the pick n pull and grab a 71B trans from a Z24. Mount it to the KA and it would still bolt up to the A10's trans crossmember and to where the L series would bolt up in the trans tunnel?

Everything but the trans mount. No way to know how well it would line up. I went from short 26" L four speed to longer 71B in my 710 by using an automatic driveshaft and moving the trans mount back one bolt space on the body. I presume the A10 is similar. Even so the mount needed to be cut and sectioned and welded up.

the only 5 spd was the KHLA10, which was a 2 door 'hatch' back, or fast back. which ever is the proper term.

I've got 3 5spds on the floor. One came from a 2dr hatch, one from a 4dr hatch, and one from a 2dr sedan.

I've actually never seen a 4spd here.

And as I recall, I think the 3dr hatch only came as an early L-series car, and the 2dr sedan only came in the later Z-series cars?
