uberkevin
My 521's muffler is set up the same way. It does sound pretty darn good too :) Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
the muffler is going to get old, LOUD texas to Cali? Take a airplane tickets are cheap. Theres alot of desert inbetween. You better buy a NEW radiator for sure. new hoses heater hose also I personally would not risk it. Even GGzilla had soem proplem on his 1200 and his a GURU/ better get lots of Ratsuners phone numbers!!!!!!!! I would NOT use Autolites the thread pitch is slightly off. Goes on OK later hard to pull out. I just get NGK or Nippondenso. buy spare clutch and slave cuylinder also! keep it in the truck. Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
actually i just replaced the slave cylinder less than a month ago and thanks for the tip on the plugs and on the radiator where should i look to find a new one other than an aluminum one Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
okay so the last few days i have been rebuilding my rear brakes but i ran into a little snag apparently the last person to replace the wheel cylinders lost the bolt that lets the fluid into it so they found one off of another car and just cross threaded the hell out of it so now i'm in the hunt for the right bolt so i can get it fixed up right the bolt that goes through the center is the bad one the good one Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
those bolt are usually with the cylinder. Your say you tighten it and its not locking up thus causeing a leak. Rockauto shows the bendix one as having BOLT WITH THE PART, But I learned the hard way thats not always the case when you get the part. My 521 the fronts wheels cylinders didnt come with the bleed screw as those got stripped out. I PB Blasted them last year hoping next time if I bleed the brakes I can use soem vice grips Quote Link to comment
jon521
hey how is it pretty loud inside the cab with the glass pack dumping out right there? id love to move my exhaust away from my shocks, it rattles on it sometimes and when i go over bumps it hits it sometimes... Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
yeah with the glass pack and the turn down its pretty loud in the truck but i don't mind B) thanks for the advice on the wheel cylinders i had orielly's order the wheel cylinder from another company also and neither had the bolt come with it i'm gonna try this specialty bolt place that my Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
boss recomended Quote Link to comment
wayno
Sometimes people think that the 521 and 620 bolts are the same, and as the 620 is more likely to be in the wrecking yards, they will try to use the 620 metric bolt to replace the SAE 521 bolt. Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
cool at least now i know that my desired bolt is standard Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
well i order some knew wheel cylinders from rockauto that supposedly have the back y piece and all the bolts so wish me luck and what would be the difference in performance between the bore sizes of wheel cylinders Quote Link to comment

ol'skoolrob
SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i had quite an interesting day today with my datsun i'll start with this you see what had happened was.... i'm just cruzing home in my truck from lunch and picking up my gf from work and some tard decides to pull out in front of me so i hit the brakes and no big deal a bit of a hard stop but whatever right???? WRONG!!! i didn't have much of a tie down on my battery just a rope i know i know it is not a battery bracket and i should have secured it properly but it's abit late for that anyways my battery slid forward when i hit the brakes and the truck starts to sputter so i pulled over, luckly i wasn't going that fast if you look carefully you can see where my +battery terminal made contact with my fuel pump and as i pulled over it must have heated until it caught on fire luckily a well prepared by stander had an aerosal can of fire suppresent and i put out my flaming truck just in time before my fuel filter melted all the way through and we would have had a real problem so here is some picks of the carnage the irony of it is that as i finish my walk home i see this on my door step the "last" parts i needed to complete my rear brake rebuild like that is gonna make the difference now anyways i'm gonna clean her up tomorow and see how far the damage is so if you got some clues on what to check let me know Quote Link to comment
wayno
Your freaking lucky the whole truck didn't go up in flames, you need to buy a battery with the posts on top of the battery like they came with stock. And a battery hold down assembly would help to. My 521 has a rubber bungee cord holding it in position, I got tired of the battery shifting forward/sideways and kinking the fuel hose shut causing me to run out of gas, the bungee fixed it, my posts are on top though, and never touched anything, the reason I don't use a stock battery hold down is because I have to pull the battery out at least once a week to use it on my sprayer pump. Don't use batteries with the posts on the side, our 521s were never meant to have that type of battery. I hope you don't have any major destruction, use a lot of baking soda everywhere that battery acid touched, rinse everything real good and then paint it. Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
That's so rebuildable. Wayno's right. If not setup properly, your asking for trouble. I'm going the side mount option with the GM covered bolts instead of posts. I'm about to run these with an Optima battery. There's a rubber boot that covers the bolt too. My battery has a custom battery clamp mount on the bottom bolted to a frame welded to the truck. It's not going anywhere. Cables are OEM GM, pricey but worth it. My first battery fire was in my first car ever, 1967 Custom VW Bug. The battery cover was missing from my battery and I put passengers in the back seat. The seat springs ground to the car and the battery, overheated the springs and set the horsehair on fire. Scary but funny. Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
You will be fine.minor set back.My battery is in the bed and i think i still got the shitty factory battery holder that came with these trucks. Quote Link to comment
ol'skoolrob
yeah she's definately going to get rebuilt and i'm definately going to switch to top posts the only reason i ever had side posts is because thats what came with it and i should probably invest in a decent fire extinguisher also Quote Link to comment
