hollywood7600
I can't get the right thermostat or the gasket for my 521. Napa autoparts gave me a bogus gasket for different type of vehicle. I dont know what auto parts store carry these items. Does any one know the part number to these parts to cross reference at another part store? Quote Link to comment

Laecaon
L motor or J motor? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Don't take the thermostat housing off... the bolts will likely snap off in the head. Take only the thermostat outlet. Beware thse universal gaskets they are a pain. Try the Nissan dealer under $2 if they have them. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
J13 does not have a removable thermo housing. Uses a weird double-gasket setup (at least it did when new). The L16 gasket is 11072-21000, the same as 510s and dozens of other cars (all Zs and L-series fours with 2-bolt holes). $2 at Nissan. $0.38 cents at RockAuto Quote Link to comment
hollywood7600
I have a 3 bolt thermostat, I think autozone might have the right one from felpro. I should I ran it with or without a thermostat? Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Napa has a 3 bolt gasket as well... Dont think Napa doesnt carry it, but as there is more than 1 option, and I would guess you didnt tell them 3 bolt, so they went with a 2 bolt one. They carry 2 brands of the 2 bolt one, and only 1 of the 3 bolt one. Here is the part number for the Fel-Pro gasket at Napa: FPG 35228 Those numbers are the universal Fel-Pro numbers for the gasket, just not sure about the letters at other parts stores... Here is a picture of the 3 bolt gasket pulled from Napa's website: As for running it without a thermostat. Eh, you live in a warm enough environment for it to not matter too much. If it is your only vehicle, go ahead. Quote Link to comment
hollywood7600
Thanks, that gasket looks about right. I took off the thermostat housing to spray paint it and found out it didnt come with a thermostat. I guess I probably wont run one then. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Run a thermostat. The engine gives best performance and economy when warmed up thoroughly. Clearances are snugger with a properly warmed engine. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
Yes, you can run it temporarily without a thermostat. But not without a thermostat gasket. Quote Link to comment
hollywood7600
I was asking about running without a thermostat, because my temp sending are not connected. I need to rewire or go buy the sunpro guages. Quote Link to comment
KELMO
I know I'm a day late and a dollar short but, if you still need a gasket I got some I can send you. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
was asking about running without a thermostat, because my temp sending are not connected. The temp sender is not a required part. You can run with that disconnected for years. It's better to run the engine with a thermostat than without, but you can run it temporarily without it. Maybe for a few days. Quote Link to comment

hollywood7600
Thanks Kelmo for the Christmas gift, but I just bought one at autozone. Autozone had one for 2 and 3 hole gasket, unlike Napa auto parts. Thank you again. Quote Link to comment
