Guest 510kamikazifreak
The 91-94 4.0 is a dog motor, head gaskets, lifters etc. the second gen(95-99 I belive) 4.0(explorer,ranger etc) is a decent motor Except for the Idle control valve, gets dirty pretty easy, and makes an annoying humm howl type of sound from the air intake. I have put 21,000 miles on mine(95) in the past 9 months, its has 311,000 KM on it now. Still going strong for a pos ford   But I like Datsuns motors better  Quote Link to comment
Kisor
Ive ben looking for a chart of comparison weights but its hard to get it all compiled I guess. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Engine_Swaps Tried to cut and paste but it all ran together... very bottom of page is a general chart Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
I would go with the L motor and spend your time and extra monies on 5 speed swap if you want better gas mileage.and disc brakes , if you want to actually stop. If you can`t get second gear tire bark from a 1600 in a 521 your not doing it right.. Quote Link to comment
