Stock Block Color

DatsunFish and I were having a debate on the stock color of the L-series engines. Anyone know the answer to this intriguing question?:blink:

I'm pretty sure it's blue....but I could be wrong

blue I believe it is.

Thats what I used to see from the importers back in the day.Those crate motors.

 

some seem to have a gold primer or something like that.

Not a great pic. It's very close to GM Blue, but not quite. The steel parts were actually a lighter shade, like the air cleaner, but all the cast parts were blue. However, parts like the transmission lower supports sometimes were black.

it is blue. we got the code and a local paint shop got it for us in a rattle can.

in any 510 that ive owned w/matching number(4) blocks have been a gold color (or silverish)

I have seen the gold (burnt silver) color on early, pre-1975 L16/L18 blocks. My '69 J13 is factory blue though.

The motor mount looks like it has some over spray.....weird

I have a red L20B, too, but it sure isn't stock. And a couple Orange L20Bs and an L18, too. That's not stock. I painted my Mom's L16 black. They come in many colors, but the Factory only made them blue or that odd off-silver goldish color.

It is called Nissan Blue or Datsun Blue. The Gold and Silver are also factory colors.
