Pulling the motor

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to pull my L20b out of the 510 and I'm curious what's the best way to do it? Is it easier to pull it out with the transmission(no using the trans) with it at the same time?

Thanks comrades

I'm on my phone so I dont see the search option. :(

Either way.

If it makes you feel better to pull the trans, go for it.

I think it's easier to pull it as a unit.

It's all about the angle of your dangle.

Haha I like that angle of your dangle.

I think I'll just end up pulling it all as one unit.

That's what she said.

What about the locations to bolt the hoist to?

Mine came with 2 brackets, eye-holes, to facilitate a load leveler/chains.

They were on the LF and the RR of the motor. I've only ever seen a few L's with them.

I'm definitely putting them on any motor I install back in.

If you don't have these, Big bolt through the chain links on opposite corners.

Be careful, and think very hard about where you're bolting to.

I've always pulled them separately, but I've heard together is easier. I'm always paranoid of hitting the core support, but the last time I did it I didn't have an engine load leveler either.

Remove the rad and distributor. Remove battery. Unwire the starter but leave on tranny. Drain the tranny and stuff rags in the end. Lift the car so the tranny tail has room to drop as the motor tilts up and out.
