jbirds510
Ok so here is the deal with a few un-needed details haha..Got a wagon (194) and the tank was totally roached...rusted beyond worthwhile repair..windows in it..the car is a 72 and the replacement tank (thanks 510 keeper!(James))is a 69 and older tank and had been sitting with fuel in it.Froze in place like obsidian in the pick up tube.I bent it up to offer a straight shot down into the tank and have been jabbing at the obstruction with a piece of welding wire with a shot of gas in there as a lubricant. Its been a couple hours and NO progress...ANY SUGGESTIONS to make this easier to get done would be soooooooo appreciated! blue72
Tried carb cleaner yet? It seems to work pretty well against dried up gasoline varnish. Quote Link to comment
WAGON JON
did you try fire? heard it might burn away the varnish! Quote Link to comment
jbirds510
update: tried carb cleaner...nothing..tried muric acid...same..nothing..decided to cut the top of the tank to remove the pick up tube and vent and will tig in a new panel and replace the old tube with a new piece of 1/4 brake line metal tube..seems to fit nice on the rubber fuel line. :) Quote Link to comment

HRH
By any chance, could you take some pictures of the inside of the tank and how that pickup line is routed? I haven't cut my spare one apart yet. Quote Link to comment
jbirds510
well I didn't think to take a picture of the inside before I welded it up.I did however take a snap of the pick up tube after it was removed.its very basic but not straight down into the tank. There is a slight bend toward the low point of the tank about 1 1/2-2" after it enters the tank. Rustina 510
Or a few gallons of scalding hot tap water and some lye. That will dissolve almost anything over time. I say burn it out. But I'm a pyro. ) Quote Link to comment
