the question you should be asking is "do I have the time, money, resources, and skill to make it fit"

 

 

and if you have to ask the answer is mostly likely, no.

It's easy to get out of your depth doing this. It's like juggling with one hand. You have to solve problems on the fly and not paint yourself into a corner you can't get out of. The truck ends up cut to pieces and unfinished and far enough along that you can't go back. Now your choice is sell for parts or for scrap. This is the worst fate for a vehicle.

 

The best fit larger motor is a later L20B. Only difference is it's 3/4" taller. A few more HP and some torque. I did this on my old 521.

That was for an L28 motor a ZX with turbo would be beyond nightmare for pipe plumbing around the torsion bars. ... of all time.

2. spend 100 hours making an L6 work...

Why is everybody ignoring the obvious. It will fit. In the bed. Not hooked up to anything.

I have even had a Ford FE 428 Engine in my 521. In the bed.
