mklotz70
Ummm......using a stamped steel impeller when you could do a custom one???? Gettin' lazy?!!! LOL!!!! :) Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I know..... I would rather not reinvent the wheel. I know nothing about fluid dynamics and impeller design so I'll stick with Nissans design ;) It would be nice to have a little higher flow but I have no idea how it would affect cavitation at high rpms which could suck (no pun intended).... Now if this one gets scrapped during modification and installation then I'll be forced to make my own.... Quote Link to comment
q-tip
I have an OEM L series pump with bad bearing sitting in the garage somewhere I think, if you end up needing it. Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Just kidding! You're already reworking the water pump more than I ever would!! lol 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
:) Thanks q-tip. Pump went together perfect. Just need to press on the flange and modify the pulley or just make a new one. I bought the cheap altima pump because I wasn't sure it would work. It was tight and felt like shit when I bought it. I just went into the parts store and the "new" lifetime warranty pump is twice as easy to turn and smooth. I think I'll buy the napa "NPW" pump and swap those guts in before I mount it to my motor. Here's what she looks like now. I'll measure tomorrow and see how much shorter it is now. 1 Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
Thanks jeph. This is the difference before and after modification. Here's how I plan to modify the pulley. I would make a new one but don't have the time. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Very nice B) 1 Quote Link to comment
tr8er
I'd say you should re-consider cutting that slice of pie out of the pulley. You will destroy belts that way. Don't ask me how I know... 2 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
water pump not made in Japan dont buy it!!!!!!!!!! 90% of the time th thremostat is closed so you will have cavitation.ANTIFRREZE!!!! I heard of people cutting notches in the vains so it dont push as much water. The Atsugi pumps seem to have a nicer arch in their vains. Unlike the Jap made GMB pumps with the stamp vains are more straight. 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Well unfortunately my S13 KA pump has the stamped impeller and I don't really wanna buy another one just to get the impeller off it... I will buy a new Altima pump so atleast it has good bearings and seals.. Maybe I can find a used worn out S13 pump to rob the impeller off... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
After looking, my original pump (that I'm using the impeller and casting from) appears to be a factory piece with curved impeller blades and not the shitty flat blades. Should be good to go. 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Hello Duracenter. Let's make some parts :) 1 Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
We have 5 duracenters :) Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I'll shorten the shaft on the napa pump when I get it. 5 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
wow, some serious shit going down in here lately, like always. glad to see it still not done, makes me feel better about my progress. hahahaah 2 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
You think of skeletonizing the centers to save a bit of rotating mass, and give you're own little twist to it? Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Yeah, speed holes! Maybe water jet a rising sun into it :P It's pretty cool that you're able to turn out a part that fast. 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Yeah some holes would break it up a little. I can fit one of these now.... http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AEOS&Product_Code=30100467&Category_Code= 3 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Such a cool idea on shortening that pulley!!!! Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks. It worked out perfect :) 4 years on this build... I'm thinking if I can get it on the road in mockup by 5 years I'd be happy. Maybe another year to finished paint and interior... Oh well. It's been fun. All major systems are roughed out and now I just need to focus on finishing them for good. I need to get the fuel lines done, figure out power cable routing, finish the brake line from cross member forward and then I can finish all the welding under the car and paint. After that it's just a matter of focusing on one area and working till done.... 2 Quote Link to comment
anth
Been following this build since the beggining, love your work! 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Thanks anth. Your car is one of the cleanest out there! I'm going to start a spreadsheet that has everything that needs to be done in order. I'll throw a wild ass guess of time for each item and cost if parts are needed. This way I can focus my attention on things that will actually keep me moving forward. I really wanna get the motor fired off this winter ;) On another note.it appears the nismotronic ecu will also control the cooling fan with set off/on temp ranges. 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Fuel rail mocked up. Hard line is just for positioning. I'll make a softline later. Just need to tig the ends and smooth it out. 3 Quote Link to comment
