engine's rough weight?

so I went to harbor freight and got a decent deal on a one ton hoist/puller.

 

question: does anyone know if that's enough to pull and lift an engine and transmission from my truck?

 

I've moved an engine before and took 3 fellers to move it but if one ton is not enough then I'll return it for a 2 ton

and don't get me wrong, for the seasoned mechanic this question is clown shoes to them but I have to limit what I purchase because my space to store tools is limited and also... Last time I messed with an engine was a diesel on an engine stand already.

the fully dressed L20 should be no more than 400lbs more like 300lbs. you will be just fine. no worries

I can pick up and move a L motor with no tranny of course by myself. There not heavy motors I think 1 ton will work.

1.5 ton hoist will lift the entire front end of a 720 pickup.

 

even the heaviest modern car engine (392 hemi) is only 750 pounds but if try to lift front of a 59 chrysler you might need more than 1.5 ton hoist.

You'll be fine. I lift A15's all the time by hand (not that often) with no head or mani's and it's nothing.

 

Course, the lift just makes it easier.

1 ton = 2000 pounds. you car with the engine and tranny is probably only 2200 or 2400 pounds.

L4 motors 250-270 lb add 100 for transmission, KA24E add another 100.

w/a 2 ton... you could unbolt the motor/x-memeber and lift the truck off it. :)

 

2 guys can pull it (w/o a tranny) but not put it back in place smotthly.
