im in the middle of a matchbox dizzy swap.

i found that distributor shafts are different on distributors.

the original has a key slot at the end, and the a series matchbox distributor has a smooth end.

what to do now?

cut a slot into the a series?

swap the shafts?

heres a link to the pic for caparison.

spaceball.gifI thought the A series had a gear on the end of it. That's how it's driven and not by a slot.

Correct!

But if you take the gear off the A-series, and the sleve from the others shaft(as in pic) You will notice the only difference is the slot!

Should be able to make a slot, off center of coarse.

1) cut a slot. (they are 180* off correct?)

2) if the shaft cans be swapped

Perhaps a proper application of an angle grinder and a thick disc.

1)Get a L series matchbox

2) punch out that roll pin and swap the (ends worm gear/slot end), if it can work

Gringing a slot is cheezy and can introced slop and a variation of the timming.

This is not going to come out good. also the timming plate is 180- off. But I guess you can swap the mount also

if you had the L seires one this would be done in 15-20mins

The pin is out and the ends are off in the pic!

If done right there will be no slop!

And if your putting in your own slot you can put it in 180 out!

swapping the shafts is fairly easy after you have the roll pin out. Speaking of the roll pin....if you're going to attempt to grind your own slot....don't forget to pay attention to where the roll pin goes on the A series dizzy....it could be pointing in a different direction. If you grind the slot to line up with the rotor and the pin is off...the slot and the drive tangs on the coupler will not line up.

..hhmm....I vaguely remember that the center of the motor side couple has a recess where the shaft would hit.....so that just the tangs on the outer couple hit.....so it won't matter where the roll pin hole is, just how the rotor lines up with the coupler?
