Jester
Well guys, I finally found a truck worth buying! I found a '71 in pretty decent shape. It has a freshly rebuilt Weber, new front brakes, 14" aluminum slots. The guy said he did the carb and brake work and the starter quit working. So, he just parked it. Not a bad find for $300.00. I'll post pictures when I get it home in a couple days. Jester Quote Link to comment

pope_face
Sounds pretty good! Take it for a test-drive anyways... do the rolling start... You didn't mention a transmission swap, and I don't think any of the 521's came with autos, so you ought to be able to do it that way... just get a good hill, or bring a buddy and hook up a rope between the two. That is, if the seller lets you... just a thought. Quote Link to comment
Jester
As luck would have it, a freind of mine lives 3 houses down from the guy. We are going to put it in the shop and swap out the starter. Check all the fluids and see what she does. Thanks Jester Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
For $300 you cant go wrong IMO. + it has mags & a Weber already. Starters cost $40 new  Must post pix soon...:D Quote Link to comment

Jester
Well, I did it. I paid for it today and will bring it home this weekend.:D Pictures to come. Jester Quote Link to comment
pope_face
Awesome! Just as long as it doesn't look cooler than mine when it's done... Are you towing it, or are you going to push start it? Or did you get the starter changed? If at all possible, I vote driving it... gotta be one of the coolest feelings in the world... it makes me giddy just thinking about it... :D Quote Link to comment
BEEBANI
Awesome Jester, someone on here that's actually close to me! Hit me up if you need any help. Quote Link to comment
Jester
Thanks for the offer of help. I know these are like going back to the basics, but, I may just take you up on that some time. Hell, if nothing else we can get together for a beer or something. As to getting the truck home, I will probably tow it to the house and work on it there. That would be about 40 miles. I thought about bumping it and heading for home. I just want to make sure that everything important is up to the job first. You know those things called brakes??? Both master cylinders are at the bottom of the res. with fluid. Not dry, just VERY low. I pushed the clutch in yesterday when I payed for it and the pedal didn't come back all the way. One tire on the back is showing a lot of weather cracks. With all that I think it would be best to get her home and give it the once over. Thanks guys, I'm very excited.:D Jester Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Prolly a real good idea ;) How long has it been sitting? Quote Link to comment
Jester
Tags expired in '05. I'm not sure when it "ran" last though. It's hard to have an informative conversation with someone who doesn't speak english very well.:D Jester Quote Link to comment
BEEBANI
Had the same problem when I brought my 521 home. I just towed it with a tow bar that kept it tight to the tow rig. It had been sitting for 6 years....no brakes, no nothing! Quote Link to comment
Jester
OK guys here is a couple photos of the truck now that it's home. [/img] [/img] WOW! It looks pretty good on here. I guess now I just need to make it look that good in person. Jester Quote Link to comment
Jester
BTW; I got to dick'n with it today and noticed it has a dual point dist. Where these factory or an aftermarket deal? I put some fresh brake fluid in the brake reservior and it will build and hold pressure. Keep your fingers crossed. I'll bleed them tomorrow, then see how the clutch work as well. May try to start it too. Jester Quote Link to comment
pope_face
Awesome... looks like you've got your work cut out for you... :D I noticed the speakers in the door panel... watch out for those. If you don't have the window squeegies on the outside of the doors you'll get water down inside the door... it might rot out the speaker cones or short out the connections. Either get the squeegee, or seal the area behind the door panel and around the back of the speaker well. BTW, what is that to the left of the steering column? Looks like some sort of meter or something... Quote Link to comment
Jester
BTW, what is that to the left of the steering column? Looks like some sort of meter or something... :D:D Itermittent wipers. OH ya.....it's loaded. Jester Quote Link to comment
pope_face
Hahaha, awesome... Almost completely off-topic... my Explorer has seven-speed intermittant wipers... plus high and low... who needs 9 wiper speeds? Quote Link to comment
Jester
Hell, maybe I'll just put a cruise control on the otherside Jester Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
hard to tell from the tiny pic, but it looks like you got a really nice rig for $300! I like the color....if only because it's not stock :) Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
Slotted mags, steering wheel, & the body looks good! Thats a good starting point :D Quote Link to comment
pope_face
About that steering wheel... it does look pretty cool, but are you going to keep it or swap it out for a larger one? I know the larger Grant ones are a bit pricier, but it might become a bit of a pain-in-the-ass steering with a small wheel... Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
Its all about the small wheels...i have the same one. I took off the foam & wire wheeled it then painted it w/ a few coats of candy blue :D Jester theres a few different stock wheels that'll fit..620's & i believe the older Z's will fit. Jester
Thanks for all the kind words guys. I really haven't given any thoughts to the steering wheel yet. It's a little too South of the boarder for me. I will try to find a stocker for it latter. Jester Quote Link to comment
