fisch
Will a 620 slave fit a 521? I have tried to find the answer with no luck. Beck/Arnley has two different parts #'s for the respective trucks. (which prolly means the trucks are not compatible in their slaves.) But I found a Japan 620 one pretty cheap, and if it would fit, I'd love to try it. Anyone know? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I think the 521 has an adjustable rod in it for setting clutch pedal height, but the main body might switch. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
You can always use the old rod But look on Rockauto.com some have a photo and compare the part. the 521 has the bleed screw fwd due the torsion bar being in the way compared to a datsun 510-610-200sx-240sx types. Pacific coast Datsun
They should interchange & bolt up but as Hainz said the rods swap out. They are still available @ a few auto parts stores...my new 620 clutch slave was $25-$40 new. If you find that the 620 unit will work youll want to use the 521 push rod. Quote Link to comment
fisch
Gotcha. Thanks guys. And as luck would have it the seller actually did some homework for me when I described how the 521 slave looked. Which I will add below, (in case someone else is referencing this thread.) He said: "The (pushrod) one that I have (620) is actually not even threaded. It is just a rod similar to a wheel cylinder push rod (not threaded)." How hard is it to switch pushrods? Unless it is stupid simple I will prolly just go with the Beck/Arnley for a 521. After all I won't be looking under there much to miss the word 'JAPAN'. Additional note: The seller claims this 620 slave is listed as fitting a '72 521. BUT NOT A '71 521. However Beck Arnley references the same part # for 71 and 72 521's. Something doesn't ad up. I think '72 was the cross over year from 521 to 620. Might be something to keep aware of. Perhaps there were some 620 clutches in '72 521's? But remember I don't know jack! Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
The push rods arent held in place until it's installed so easy swap... Unless im missing something all 521 clutch slaves should be the same..... The crossover from 521 to 620 was 72 1/2 so a few early 620 parts may be listed as 521 parts. Quote Link to comment
kiznook
are 521 and 510 the same? I know the 510 slaves are available (with adjustable rod) Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
the hose going to the slave is in a different location the 521 comes in from the front due to the torsion bar being in the way The 510 has no torsion bar is the hose comes in from the side Quote Link to comment
kiznook
ahh nevermind than Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
chances are that the difference is the 521 has SAE threads and the 620 has metric. You can get the 620 hose too, but you'd have to change the hardline nut/line. Double check that the bore size is the same...pretty sure it is. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Damn I forgot about that one MIke but are you sure ?. I swear ,matter of fact I had it on DVD that Jeff had installed a 240sx slave on his gray primered 521. He just wraped the hose around the torsion bar(Totally Rigged) but it worked. Hose would have worn out rubbing on the torsion bar. But the hose went in the slave part fine. I know 521s are SAE on the lugnuts 7/16s(write this down Fisch) Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I'm pretty sure. The m/c's changed from SAE to metric, so I would assume the slaves did as well. Quote Link to comment
