  1. What's the plan with rear diff/suspension/brakes? That's going to be a LOT in such a small car.
  2. They make knock gauges so I'd imagine so. It's more beneficial to run a wideband and monitor AFR's though. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cei-102003?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KEQjw1v66BRCV-6rh6s-Biu8BEiQAelpuiyxGej-JvvAJcHcBsSIaDXluOoLHbZqOqF9Zmu9ZTuUaAviP8P8HAQ
  3. Change fluid first. It's not uncommon for a Datsun manual to grind, as old as these transmissions are. Make sure whatever fluid you buy, it specifies GL4 yellow metal safe ONLY. Motul, Redline, Royal Purple are all good sources for awesome GL4 fluid.
  4. Still available through the dealer too. Surprised they aren't NLA at this point, must fit something more modern.
  5. There's a place in Gainesville called Ahrens Auto Service that used to be known as Ahrens Z Car. I believe several years back their focus went from S30+ Z'cars to general maintenance. Might look them up and see what those guys are up to.
  6. I'm not sure how Mike hasn't blown up yet and flamed everyone on here. A real fuckin trooper.
  7. Yeah I'm 99% sure that's where we've been screwed up all along. Be back in a few days after we fix it lol
  8. I'm going to save myself the embarrassment and say what I've been thinking all along. In my defense it was late and I was tired. I........I think the firing order is 1-3-4-2 CW...not CCW. Probably need to hook a ground wire up to the matchbox dizzy, that will probably solve the no spark issue.
  9. Hey folks, I'm back at it again. Trying to help one of the locals get his L18 in his 620 back up and running after they attempted a dizzy swap, but running into a hickup. Long story short, dude buddy bought one of those POS 'Ebay' electronic distributors with the internal module and the truck hasn't run since. I went over there Sunday and found out that this garbage distributor is 180 degrees backward from the OEM matchbox (literally, the rotor is 100% the opposite direction.) We pulled a spare matchbox dizzy that he got off of his 520 to test it, checked the oil pump drive position at TDC which was dead on, and got the dizzy back in, but the truck still runs like garbage. backfiring out of the intake, etc etc. Couldn't get it to idle long enough to get a timing light on it. Regardless of dizzy position. We got it idling and started adjusting timing, and now all of the sudden the truck doesn't run and has no spark. Have 12v at coil+ and coil- but not spark from the dizzy. I'm sure I'm overlooking something, but any feedback would be good. This truck hasn't seen the road in almost 7 months which is just way too long.
  10. Wow man...ain't that some shit. Hate to see that happen, especially on the clean bees.
  11. Agreed. I've been floating around them, hopefully sometime this year or early next year I'll find a place to store and work on them. Canby this year is a possibility.
  12. How about a few pictures? :P Here's a few of the Chumpcar that will be rescued. And the only picture I took of the rock crawlin 521 ;)
  13. Yep! Funny thing is that the owner (the idiot that wrecked it because he didn't want to fix the brakes) ended up buying a 620 (RIP soon...) pulling the motor from this truck, and giving away the 521. So it was picked up for NOTHING. However sadly it isn't my truck. Small world lol. We'll see how it does in a year or two! He's still been on it, just lacking on updates! The driveline is mounted, engine is in place, and it has a full exo-cage. He's even got shocks and springs sitting in the corner of his workshop, which is in the basement of his new house that could potentially fit 7 Datsuns. I'm super jelly. I'll have to see if I have a picture
  14. I've been in and out of Datsun stuff for the last few months, having not owned one for about 7 months. Went with Master-o-turbonics this last weekend to pick up two 521's in Atlanta. One I had actually tried to buy previously, but the owner didn't answer the door. (It got sold and wrecked, so now it's being saved.) We went a few hundred miles back and forth across the state. The second one was clapped out, but has a gold mine of cool parts. It has an L16 from a '68 510 so it has the rare valve cover, oil cap, unmarked 210 head, etc. We'll also be rescuing an L28 swapped 510 Chump Car known as 'rusty' that has been stored out of commission for a few years. Ideally, we'll be getting it ready over the following months and taking it chump car racing for the 2017 season, but that is a long way out. It will definitely be back on the race track this season though. I might have a few pictures to share if there's any interest. Thought I'd share a couple cool pictures from the weekend. 15. I never had to remove the torsion bars on any of my 620's to do the clutch, although it would have made it easier. OP: Don't forget while the trans is out, it would be a good idea to get an input shaft seal and replace that as well as inspect the rear main seal for leaks. Hell you might as well get the output shaft seal and clutch slave cylinder, you'll likely never have to touch the transmission again if you do it all while you're there. Make sure that whatever trans fluid you buy, you get the right stuff. GL-4 Yellow Metal Safe ONLY.
  16. I found a Series 1 in Texas for sale for a grand, with the rare blue interior. Score.
  17. Nice. I saw your post on FB about it yesterday and was curious about your process.
  18. What size tires are you running man? The bike looks GREAT. I guess I have to post my CB750 somewhere.
  19. Still my favorite build on Ratsun. Too damn cool
