  1. I finally got the exhaust done yesterday, so now I can hear!! I bought a $50 s/s muffler on eBay, a s/s flex joint, and had the shop bend up the pipe. I used two s/s "band clamps", which I had never used before, and I'm hoping that they allow me to remove the exhaust any time, without having to cut anything. Works in theory, but I won't test it until I need to! You can see the flex, and the first band clamp here............. A bit blurry, taken at the muffler shop. A better pic of the first band clamp............. The second band clamp is right before the rear subframe.................. These guys have done my exhaust for years, and do nice work cheap! I opened up the exhaust "notch" to accomodate the dual tip, and the system has a nice mellow sound, cuz I also had them put in a cherry bomb bullet muffler in the middle. .
  2. Yeah datzenmike, I did the same thing a few years ago to another rear seat, but forgot about it, so I did it again!
  3. As usual, the door rubber seals on the stainless trim, at the bottom of the door glass was all brittle & broken up. I got the new aftermarket seals from Datsunlandsocal, paid the BIG premium price, but they really worked out well! The NEW seals do not attach to the stainless trim the same way as the factory, but instead use clips to hold in place. I used my Dremel to cut the staples, where they are bent over INSIDE the "C-channel" of the trim. The trim, the old seal & steel strip and the new seal & clips................. The new seal attached with the new clips............................ The new seal done (I painted my stainless trim black, as I blacked out the window frames).......... ...........and the finished product. Simple to do, and looks great!
  4. I picked up a nice set of 90-93 Integra seats in the dark charcoal grey. The seat inserts had some blue (and light purple) specks in the pattern, so looks good with the light blue color of the car! The best part was that the FRONT mounting ears on the Integra seat rails simply needed to be bent almost flat, and the bolt holes lined up with the factory Datsun bolt holes! For the rear mounting, I'll need to also flatten out the mounting ears, then fab up some spacers to level it out like I want it, and drill new holes thru the floor.
  5. I was able to save the back seat, got it all stitched up, and spray bombed it with the same flat black vinyl paint as the door panels etc etc. It looks really good! Don't worry all you blue upholstry lovers, as the top of the seat back was "burned" & starting to crack & split, so it was not any good in it's original color.........it needed the black! .
  6. Whooooohooooo, the Aussies are involved!! If anybody will step up to do this, it's them!!
  7. FYI those SU carbs on Seattle craigslist look like the small HS2 MG Midget carbs, so definately not suitable for a Datsun!
  8. HOW does something like this get shipped to Malaysia?? :crying: To survive, I would think that they would need to be boxed up in a wooden crate, and shipped via sea freight or something. I've got doors, but....................yikes.

    Door Latch

The latch is basically spring loaded, so you would have to remove it to check it out. If it looks good, soak it in gasoline, carb cleaner or something, grease the crap out of it, and keep "working it" until it loosens up. Otherwise, I've got good USED ones, and RECONDITIONED ones (sandblasted & re-plated in the yellow chromate). PM me if interested! Do you have a 2 door or 4 door?
  10. slayer510, setting up the AC is pretty straightforward..........the hard part is finding a good underdash unit, and looks like his is complete! Nice 'Goon!!
  11. The 70-73 510's were a simple black plastic (see qwik510's red square), no "Datsun" emblem. Along with the radio delete blanking plate on the dash, have you guys seen the small oval rubber blanking PLUG for the lower antenna mounting hole? Those are even harder to find!
  12. drewsdime is correct, radio delete with a narrow "tray" or "bin" to hold stuff. I've never seen a 1968-1969, but the 1970-1973 round gauge dash is different. Most cars came with a radio, others were tossed to install a radio, so kinda rare!
  13. Try Matt at Vintage Imports in Dayton OH 937-550-4509. He is europarts4u on eBay.
  14. Mid 90's, hanging out with my buddy at his restoration shop, helping him work on something (likely British!). Around 8pm, we're cleaning up washing our hands, and he says "We should go for a ride in something cool!" Ummmmm, OK!! (that's why I hung out there!). He goes to the front desk, comes back with some keys, and points to a really nice blue with white stripes, AC Cobra kit car, and says "Let's go!". We pull out of the parking lot real slow, cuz the county had JUST scuffed the top layer of the road off to re-pave, so there was lots of loose gravel. He's just "idling" it along, rumble rumble blurp blurp rumble, watching for the end of the construction. As soon as he goes "bump bump" up over the lip of scraped asphalt vs good asphalt, he stomps on it! Bwaaaaaa (1st), boowaaaaaaaaa (2nd), boowaaaaaaaaa (3rd)!!!! As we crest a small rise, then dive down to the right a l'il, under an overpass, full throttle, the next thing I know we are spinning around! We had to be doing 70-80+ mph, in a CUSTOMER CAR, and I'm holding on to the dash with my left hand, over the top of the right door with my right hand, mouth wide open (although silent), we come around 360 degrees, and he saves it going straight in the same direction we were originally going. He stops the car in the middle of the road, hands tight on the Nardi steering wheel, and lets out a gasp. He looks over at me with a grin, my mouth still hanging wide open, and says "Sooooooo, wanna go back to the shop now?". Ummmmm OK.
  15. I have an NOS NEW fuel pump for a 1981-1983 720 Pickup with the Z22 Z24............will this work for him? I simply don't know the later Z-series engine components!! I would GUESS that it will bolt up, but the fittings may not be the same, however may be an easy "fix". Somebody help!!
  16. jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous jealous :sneaky: Very cool project!
  17. How the heck do you know Dan.........yer in NC!!?? Yes, he does EXCELLENT body & paint, but VERY expensive!! The one car that I see most of his, is the 1962 (??) Impala BubbleTop that he painted for his Dad. Killer resto-mod! You do get what you pay for........... Thanks for the positive comments! I've got more welding to do on this car, some of it exterior sheetmetal, so lots more learning to do. I'd like the next project to be much more "detailed" in the welding.
  18. Somewhere along the line, somebody re-covered all of the seats in a darker blue vinyl & velour. The drivers seat had since torn & popped the threads along the inner seam facing the shifter, and I noticed that the original blue vinyl was still under the other upholstry! Well, both of the original front seat upholstry was torn up (they just slipped the other upholstry over it!), so I checked the back seat too. Turns out, the rear seat back was "burned" on the top from the sun & age (originally a New Mexico car many years back), but was not torn up, and the rear seat bottom was perfect! OK........since everything else was going to be matte black, I decided that I needed to clean the upholstry BEFORE I spray bombed it (again, the "vinyl paint" really turns out nice, if done properly), so I wet it down, soaped it up, and scrubbed it! WARNING!!!!!!!!! This is what happens when you "wet down" 40+ year old seat to wash it, and the thread holding seat upholstry together sounds like a zipper, and goes "pop!!"........................ After cleaning, I left both the seat back & seat bottom out in the sun to dry, and when I brought them back inside, I leaned on the seat bottom, and heard the thread "popping" as it finally gave way after 40+ years of holding together. My heart sank. When you "wet" old thread to clean it, it softens & pulls apart. So I have since pulled the upholstry off of the seat frames, and taken it to a local upholstry shop to RE-stitch the whole thing back together! It did NOT tear the upholstry, the thread simply let loose, so they should be able to put it all back together. An expense I really did NOT need!
  19. Although I have always liked the plain look of steel wheels, I went ahead and sandblasted a set of the 280ZX 6-spoke wheels, and will paint them a bright silver metallic.....................
  20. I spray bombed the headliner in white, as it had the typical old glue "stains" all around the edges! The headliner wasn't perfect, but still very usable. I don't think I'll ever spray bomb in white again, as it doesn't "cover" well..........black would have been MUCH easier, and MUCH cheaper ($15 per can for the flexible vinyl paint, and I used 3 cans of the white!!) .
  21. I've been working on cleaning up the interior. The original blue panels were not very good, so I dug up a set of decent black panels, and vinyl painted them a matte (flat) black. I know some of you are shaking your heads, but it really does turn out nice! I tried using a gloss black, but that just didn't look right. These are the EARLY (thru 1971 model year) door panel patterns, with the "square" design (1972-1973 had a "rounded" design)................. Rear door panels, and spray bombed the inner rear wheel housing covers. I'll replace the blue door jamb trim with black, just gotta dig those up in my stash of parts............. I also made NEW front lower kick panels, mounted new speakers and new vinyl from the edge of the kick panel along the inner rocker/sill panel................. The C-pillars had already been re-covered with a darker blue vinyl, so I spray bombed those too, and sprayed the lower trim panels..................... .............. sprayed the rear parcel shelf, NEW vinyl across the back below the rear window, and installed new speakers back there too!
  22. I think he means "forward". Sounds like the lower formed section, where the wheel arch lip rolls down into the trailing end of the sill/rocker panel. Might be a hard piece to find rust free...........
