  1. I will start off by saying that everything works on the truck. Lights, HVAC, wipers, dash lights etc. I have checked all of the grounds including the main off the battery into the wiring harness and they are solid with no corrosion. I checked underneath the dash and there are no loose connections of funky wiring. All of the fuses are good and the connections are tight. So, here is the dilemma. As you all know the dash lights in these trucks are dim due to the Hitachi 35 amp and the general design. My stereo and brake lights along with everything else described above worked great. Well, as of late it seems like my alternator is surging power (the best way I can explain it) because now all of a sudden after 4 months or driving the truck my dash lights are way brighter, my HVAC blows harder and subsequently my brake lights no longer work. I have replaced the brake switch and checked the wiring at the alternator, checked the bulbs in the tailights (all operable) and have drawn no conclusions. My turn signals, parking lights and reverse lights all work. Just no brake lights so it is not the bulbs as the brakes share the same bulb as the parking lights. The other day it quit surging (dash lights dim) and the tailights along with everything else worked normally as it should. Why am I losing my brake lights and is my alternator going out. You wouldn't think it would surge before shiting the bed but????? Please help as I can't drive around without brake lights. Thanks in advance!!
  2. You need to get your shit straight. It is 6 minimum. 7 is a given.....hahahahahahaha....
  3. I will help with the 21o. Has anyone installed the EI in thier 620 or 510? I have the dizzy and have read the articles but if someone has already done it that could save me some time. Hand for a hand? --P
  4. I have read many threads about upgrading alternators and the work people have done including fabbing the brackets etc. Well, I wanted to share with everyone an alternative method. Romaine Electric sits in Kent and they deal with alternators, starters, generators, you name it. I used them to rewind my D50 alternator from 40 amps to 75 amps. They simply ordered the stator and installed it. As you all know the amp output stock is 35 amps. RE ordered a 60 amp stator and it takes 2 days to recieve it. It is coming from AZ. RE only takes 1/2 hour to install and bench test the unit. Final Cost is $90 out the door. The nice thing about this is I don't have to fab anything. It is a wrench off, wrench on situation. You don't need much more than 60 amps to run everything you need. My D50 has an Electric Fan that draws 19.5 amps and a kicking stero system with upgraded H7 lighting etc. 75 amps is more than enough to run all of that at the same time with no stutter or dimming under full load. Save yourself a headache and a bunch of time and go visit RE. Their number is 425.264.1700. Ask for Tom.

    Amber Headlights

Mine are vinyl yellow tint done at my local Custom Speed Shop. They look great and are very bright. Only cost $20 and my wiring stayed the same.
  6. ^^^^^X2 ....I use the Hi-Temp Black Silicone. I find it covers better and has a stronger bonding agent. I skim it and only apply a super thin coat. Never any splooge. I also use a thin bead on the CAM cover on the corners. Every other gasket is dry. I helped a buddy fix his carb once. When I had it apart I noticed he used RTV on the gaskets. Hahahaha. Duh..The gas melted the RTV and plugged up the carb. He has learned since.
  7. The 38MM is designed for modified motors. You can get away running stock if you have a big 4 cylinder with big valves etc. The l18 and l20 stock would be an overcarbbed situation. This is why you are running rich and bogging down etc. It's driveable but not ideal. The 38 is dual synchronous meaning both barrels open up at the same time all the time. If you have extensive head work i.e. port/polish, valve grind, springs, CAM etc etc then it works great. I had one on my old 2.6 and also on my new modified 2.6 that has never been fired. CFM is rated at 426 but some articles and books say 390. Let's split the difference for arguments sake and settle on an even 400 CFM. It is a lot of carb for a small motor. For $40 dollars buy it and try it. New they are $400. Used they are in the $200 range. You just made yourself some money and you can expirement. 38's are also an excellent platform for a blow-thru application. Whether this is a turbo or supercharger the only modification you need to make to the carb is the float. The brass floats are thin walled and will collapse under pressure. The nitro filled plastic floats will not collapse and are $12 from WEBER Direct. Jetting can remain the same if you are happy with the driveability. I am currently working with WEBER Direct and Procharger for my 2.6 and the carb is set to go. I just have to build the bracket, FAB the piping to the intercooler, and make a custom crank pulley. After looking into this I thought this was a wild goose chase but you would be surprised on how many people Procharger and WEBER Direct have set up with this system. The 38 is an awesome carb.
  8. I am glad for the safe return...I have a story...I had a GMC Vandura cargo van I used for my business. It had my company logo all over it with dark tint on all the windows for obvious reasons. Well, the would be thief knew there were tools inside the van. The neighbor rings me at 2 am in the morning and says "Be cool....but someone is breaking into your van as we speak." Talk about a rush of adrenaline. I instantly jump out of bed leaving all the lights off, grab my 7 inch buck knife and an Easton Aluminum Softball bat, and my cell phone. I dialled 911 and left the phone on the hook sitting by the nightstand. I knew the cops would show but wasn't going to miss my chance. So this prick broke out the lock on the slider door and was half way in when I Babe Ruthed his ass..literally in the ass. Of course his natural reaction was to put his hands on the small of his back and stretch upwards. He banged his head on the roof of the van so hard I had thought he knocked himself out. I dragged him out by the ankles and stood on his balls. This dude was 5'10, prolly around 150 lbs (clearly due to the meth addiction), missing teeth and was unbathed. He was scared and was not struggling....Cops came and hauled him away...I got an earful for calling 911 and not saying anything....oh well...I had my moment... I have some tricks up my sleeve. I am going to install a couple of goodies on my 620 this weekend...
  9. For those in the caravan from wa state... My mobile is 206.617.0649 if people get lost or are running late etc....
  10. Also....to confirm for Sunday (as we know things change)...who is meeting at the McDonalds at 9am off I-5?
  11. I'm in...I can bring some Hot Bean Dip along with my LP Stove....Someone else bring the chips..Also, its gonna rain so is there a spot picked out that has something under cover? If not, our food and us are gonna get wet...Last resort I could bring a 10x10 Canopy. The wifey is coming so I gotta keep her warm... <_<
  12. OMG...What a dumbass move..Sorry 77..Admins please fix this. I was wondering what the little red and green +/- do and low and behold it is exactly what you guys are talking about...I clicked - on your post...My bad  Perhaps a quick clarification for everyone on the new site enhancements would be appreciated...It might prevent crap like this.
  13. How about "Hot Carl" .... Not Hispanic but who doesn't like a Hot Carl who BTW is the Dirty Sanchez's second cousin. See, they are related.
  14. So everybody keeps saying Saturday. The 17th is a Sunday. Which is it? I can meet people at the MacDonalds at 9am. WHo else is interested in meeting there?
  15. The Block has been taken. The head is still for sale.
  16. I hardly consider them "tacky" when realizing what they were originally intended for and that is Exotic Pasta Rockets. With that philosphy, all trends are tacky....wheels, body kits, custom paint jobs etc. There are all types of people that use aftermarket items i.e. not intended stock...for thier Datsuns. Its all about personal taste but I agree that the trend is long over.

    L7 Cam

Ok...i have confirmed the fitment of the OFFY and Header. Here are the pics. Sorry to thread jack but it may be pertinent to the original post regarding fitment.... Here is the intake and my block of plate for the EGR I made... Here is another shot showing there are no mounting holes on the low side - Requires dished washers that share the mounting surface with the header...as seen on next pic. Here is the header...this is a california model with the emission plugs. These will get plugged and the header will get ceramic coated. Note the installation points - Half Moons... Here are the 2 peices together... These are other peices that have been bead blasted....everything posted will get polished eventually... Better pick of Tri-Y

    L7 Cam

Good Point - Not sure on an L18 as I haven't messed with installing my OFFY or Tri-Y. I'll take your word for it on the L20.
  19. ARP sells them. Part # 202-4201. These are studs and not bolts and can be re-used as they never stretch. I use ARP on everything i.e. head, rod and main bolts. They are the best you can buy.

    L7 Cam

The 38/38 is your problem. I have an OFFY dual plane and did much research, including calling Offenhauser and Rebello. The dual plane on the offy has two different diameter chambers. It was designed to be used with a primary/secondary carb setup like Hitachi or Weber. The smaller primary chamber is for the 32 and the larger secondary chamber is for the 36. A Weber 38 is dual synchronous meaning both chambers open up at the same time all the time whereas the 32/36 does not. Also, do not use a high rise plate on an offy if you have one installed. Rebello advised me not to use the Offy intake if I was going with a larger CAM and had extensive head and port/polish work done. They say to get dual carb setup to take full advantage of the head work. An offy does have advantages with a mildly built or stock motor as you will have an increase in low end torque and MPG. It only works with a header (meaning stock mani won't fit) so a good quality tri-y will complete the package. I would advise getting a hogged out L18 Manifold with your Weber 38 and trying that.
  21. Guys are just poking fun to have a laugh. Nothing serious. These don't fit the Datsun line up as most of us are purists. Perhaps the honda forums will be a better sale.
  22. I can bring some dogs, chips, and sodas ;) (bring your koozies). I am down for meeting at 9am.
  23. I'm down with some early morning grub. Oh, and by the way.....How many people are going? hahahahahaha......
  24. Yo Doug...I got some parts we can swap if your interested. I need some things... 1. Front Turn Signal Lenses and some other stuff I can't remember.
