    Boxboy's 520

Looking good. So far, I have refurbished one wheel. I had a P205/75R14 Goodyear Viva 2 WSW mounted. It seems these old rims are so well built (and heavy) that very little weight was needed. (Your wheel shows no weight on the outside, so the color looks uninterrupted.) Keith

    Floor pan drain holes

I recently had new floor pans installed on the driver & passenger foot wells of my 520. The original pans were corroded very badly. I now need to drill the drain holes. Does anyone have the measurements for the position of the holes? (I want to replicate the original pans as closely as possible.) Thanks, Keith

    Boxboy's 520

Great looking. I have been stripping my wheels and priming with acid etching primer, then painting with an argent silver paint. I discovered that the valve stem hole on the original wheel is .625" (rather than .453"). Some tire shops do not carry this size stem, so you may want to bring a set along when you have tires mounted. BTW, what tire have you decided to mount? Keith

    Door panel

jefe de jefes, Thanks for the measurement and photos. Were these vinyl covers made using an old set of covers as a template? (I just want to be sure that the measurements I am using did not result from any "artistic license" taken by the fabricator.) Keith

    Door panel

Thanks the panel design! I am looking for the measurements of the width of each section of the door panel vinyl. The PO replaced the horizontal seamed vinyl with an vertical seamed vinyl. (I have fabricated new masonite panels and have the positioning of the fastener and crank holes, but lack old vinyl to use as a template.) Keith

    Door panel

I am reassembling the interior of my 520 and need a color photo of what the original door panels looked like (specifically the width of the individual panel pleats). Does anyone have a photo of an original panels with the vinyl covering? Thanks, Keith
  12. I have not installed the fuzzy strips. Several months ago, I had used 3M Super 90 spray adhesive to adhere the two thin strips to the metal backing. I have had the assembled strips sitting on a shelf for 3-4 months and there has been no shinkage of the strips. I do not plan to install the strips until I locate a replacement window channel weatherstip. (The clips that hold the fuzzy strips to the doors are vely fragile, so I do not want to install/remove the strips too many times.)

    I need motovaton

For many people, the motivation to work on the project should not be to complete the truck and be done with it. Remember, You have no boss on your back criticizing your work. You have no customer arguing about the price you are charging. Enjoy this freedom. Get the vehicle operable and drivable. Take it to a show, or at least a Sonic drive-in. Open your windows and listen to the envious compliments you overhear. Turn off the radio and shut off the iPod. Enjoy the music of your engine. Anyone can have a loud exhaust; you on the other-hand want to enjoy the sounds of a classic Datsun.
  14. Yup, I need an oil slinger. Also could use the Dogleg crankshaft bolt (used for hand starting the egine with the manual hand crank). Thanks, Keith

    J13 front cover

I purchased both the Nissan and (BMC) Metro felt seals. The Nissan was a little thicker, so I installed that one. My local Nissan dealer ordered me the neoprene 13042-B3000 seal. I have yet to pick it up from them. Once I get it home I will take some measurements to ensure it will fit. I'll post the results. Keith
  17. I need an oil slinger, any possibility you would sell separately? Thanks, Keith
  18. Looks great. Interesting valve cover, the vent on mine has a 90 degree bend. Also, there is no wording imposed on my cover. Does yours say "DATSUN" or "NISSAN"? I have an original "1300" foil decal for the valve cover. I am trying to find someone to duplicate it. Consider getting the 22162-25700 distributor cap, they have a retro look to them. Keep the photos coming. I need inspiration! Here is a link to my rebuild: My link Keith
  19. I used the Kia Sportage, a great solution. See: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=83080 Keith

    J13 rear main seal

Craig, The engine manual is still at the motor shop. I found the manual in the UK and had it shipped to the US. To this day, I have not found any copies for sale in the US. I did find one in Australia (http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=807569119&searchurl=kn%3Dj13%2Bnissan%26x%3D0%26y%3D0). I know it is pricey, but there are so few copies around, so you may want to order it if you need the info now. Keith

    The 520!

Do you know what brand of seal they used on the windshield? Also, did you replace the rear window seal? BTW, your 520 looks great!
  22. You may have to put a bit of heat on the piston. One of the rings may have shattered. If you force the piston and score the cylinder wall, the block may have to be re-sleeved (an expensive proposition). BTW, this month’s Road & Track mentioned the J Series engine in the readers’ tech question section. How timely! Keith
  23. If you want to read about Kip Motors business, pick up a March 2011 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car. I have purchased several parts for my J13 rebuild from Kip Motors. They are very knowledgeable and have a deep inventory of BMC parts, some that interchange with the J13. I would not rely on them to confirm interchange, only a source for parts. Keith

    1964 320L Barn Find

That is a good looking truck. There are a couple of other L320's in North Texas. I did not make note of the serial numbers, but all L320's deserve to be saved. If you decide to get started on the project of getting your Dad's truck running, I may be able to help you locate some parts. Keith
  25. Same part as Metropolitian #6K26 locktab, Item 11 in Kip Motor's crankshaft parts breakdown. Keith
