  1. its like pressing the launch control button on the GTR, =$20,000 non warrantied tranny job.
  2. this has not been my experience with LKQ, however we dont have their pick and pulls here, just their normal yards where you go up and ask for the part and they go get it for you. their yard here in PHX is ENORMOUS, the thing must be near a mile square. I have had awesome experience with LKQ so far, I picked up my engine for my civic up from them, I just got real REAL with the sales guy "look buddy, this engine is going in a car as a swap, i got a 2.0, were putting in a 2.4, secondly, its front wheel drive, meaning? if something goes wrong with this engine its NOT coming back out, its getting fixed in the car, so cut me some slack and see what you can do with no warranty" he put me on hold and came back with a price reduction from 750 after tax, to 492 after tax. that was 5,000 irregular maintenance free miles ago. this k24a1 really runs beautiful actually, thing was nearly mint when I got it. there are some true travesties that I have seen go to the junk yard, honda cvcc, just saw a near mint datsun 810 in there, I have seen some really cherry cars go to the junk yard, and the sad thing is that they buy them all for like 50-$400 and I WOULD HAVE PAID THAT!!!!!!!! boohoo, life goes on.
  3. +1 about HD, if theres a company out there that has no credibility left.......... that thing about the radar jammer is crazy, I have never heard of something like that, but i want it.
  4. i guess but who the hell would waste money tuning a yugo,..... nevermind, im pretty sure i've seen it done more than once.
  5. saw this at the weekly car show on saturday night. too bad it wasnt done that well, the body wasnt bad. it sucks that all it takes to get people gawking is a skyline.
  6. my god i know, dont get me started on the ecoboost trucks, my buddy got beat by one in his supra!, they haul ass.
  7. the later ones wer 4wd the early ones were selectable 4x4 or something to that extent i believe. sux none of them are. they can be very fast when built and tuned right.
  8. i like your skyline, its done really well. theres alot of idiocy when it comes to skylines and the rb engine both here in the USA.
  9. I saw your post over at maxima.org. and again, beautiful work, post some more pictures!!. we did get the hardtop non sunroof over here, but it is ultimately rare.
  10. woooowww, those are the rare 5 door wagovans too, i bet more than one is an awd, those are really great cars, I have wanted to buy one and come close several times. imagine tasteful tuning with around 400 hp. easy sleeper ass Evo beater.
  11. ford has stepped their game up in recent years, I have been impressed none the least. and I am not a domestic person by any means. but I am waiting for the 2014 or 15 model, whichever the next generation is. it is going to have a v6 ecoboost and independent rear suspension, very exciting. no mo big ol v8 gaschugger. what is reallll funny is when I take the GT and normal mustang guys on the freeway with my civic si, no traffic straight line, and I am smoked......until 113 mph, then the governor kicks in and the mustangs fall flat on their face. and zoom, straight by them, SI's dont have a governor, mine will do about 140. the mustang will do a good solid 150 but, removing the governor voids the warranty. now if theres traffic, its no competition for me, my suspension is too well tuned.
  12. first of all I would like to say I am not ragging on anybody directly, but sometimes you need to vent your frustration about the car world, and that is what this thread is. Is there an unwritten pact that every garage mechanic has to put an ls1 in a car it didnt come in? i mean really though, the ls1 is a great engine, but in a 240sx? not to mention again and again and again and again, its freaking old, older than rb swaps at this point, way older. last night I saw a BMW LS1, a 240sx LS1, and 2 z's with ls1 is there no creativity left? iits worse than every honda jackass being like "lets put a k24a2 in it!!!!!" or evey nissan guy being like "lets put an rb25 in it!!!!!" cause those used to be the normal overdone swaps you would see, but the LS thing is so much worse. and dont anyone try that old "same weight better offset, better weight distribution" argument, sorry IT DOESNT WORK. I have ridden in and driven LS1 z's and they do not handle as good as an L6, frankly they handle like fat pigs, why? oh idk, just a guess, but maybe because Nissan designed it that way. maybe the same reason that the 240sx handles horrible with anything but an sr20 in it, that includes the stock KA engine. so yea, I am fed up with the whole L1 thing, I dont get why people cant just build a nice vintage car without needing 6 liters. i truly dont get it, no REAL racer in these cars did it with 6 liters, so yo ufeel you need 6 liters to drive on the stree?, no? okay to show off? well it doesnt make a show for me. I also feel that its a japanese car, it doesnt deserve a badly engineered "big american penis" V8 in it. it needs ingenuity and a good driver for the record I have a buddy who is RAPING corvettes and vipers around the track, guess what hes doing it in? a stock engine 2006 civic si. gutted and caged, but stock engine. thats a 5.7 vs a 2.0 liter, and the 5.7 corvette is only about 400 lbs more than the civic so 4 extra liters should make the difference up, but does it? no. will it ever? one place only, end of the straight away, where they start to catch him. additionally, theres way WAY better V8 engines out there, toyota and nissan both make beautiful V8's toyota makes awesome v8 engines that have won GT500 racing. and if you put it in something to go in a straight line, why are you driving a datsun? sorry if i stepped on any toes.
  13. why didnt you use the rb26? you are going to have to buy one anyway to to the front wheel drive portion. the rb26 is the only one that is 4wd stock so it has the integral oil pan/differential on it. plus you will need (or rather for the sake of ease want) an rb26 transmission with the transfer case, aditionally, if you want to work the ATESSA system you will need the computers and sensors, or you can also lock it up, or other things, I have read some interesting atessa hacks, but usually you will want the whole system intact, even on the r32 drivetrain. I am very interested to see this done you will probably have to swap most if not all of the front suspension, or make custom axles and do all kinds of custom craziness up front, remember that the gtr uses dual wishbone in the front and the axles pass through them, you could use a cheaper macstrut setup like is stock, but you will end up modding more i think, and either way you will need custom axles. this car will be very evil when done though. the cage would be the absolute last thing on my agenda, cause you may end up cutting it back out for the build.
  14. Awesome trip man, I remember my last trip to san fran, and more recently to Vancouver Canada. good luck on the way back. on my way back from san fran , i went through san diego los angeles and the whole coast, then on the way back big bear and UFO highway, and then Vegas, then home.
  15. haha, in that boat now with my 910 (maxima) "all it needs is a U joint" well now the transmission is sitting on the ground next to the front wheel, hahahahahahaha.
  16. 15 years as a mechanic and you refer to them as "walmart honda" honda hate here aside, anyone saying that hondas are cheaper engineered than nissan is smokin something better than i am, or has plain old never built/worked on one. my si isnt remotely"walmart"its actually incredibly engineered and the parts are more expensive than for a 350z. hondas arent cheap cars, neither is reliability. dont dog on brands your ignorant about. dog on the dickbags with moronic ebay lowering kits and 3 tier spoilers, those guys are the problem with hondas, not honda being the problem with those morons.
  17. out of my 910/maxima last night so for those that have never removed this tranny from THE ONLY CAR IT CAME IN, the maxima. heres whats so great about this. I went out ant bought a driveshaft, clutch pedal, and tranny in great shape for around 220 for all of it from the junkyard, got it home and removed the transmission. come to find out, when you went with the automatic maxima in 1983/84, you lost 3 inches of floor space on each side of the transmission. the trans tunnel is wider by about 6 total inches, 3 on eash side, the mount is also in a totally different spot. long story short, I can pretty well tell than nissan probably lost money on this car, just because of the auto trans. they had to modify the whole tunnel in production and put a different trans mount location, the chassis for an auto and manual arent even the same in that area remotely. the manual tranny tunnel is tiny and the mount is tiny as well, mounting my 5 speed, which came out of a maxima is going to be a pain as the transmisssion crosmember is going to have to be fabricated. it will still be only 50-100 bucks more to go to 5 speed, than it would have for a new driveshaft for the auto. so what should I do with this L4N71B that came out, its about 190k miles on it, it still runs really well, im almost a little sad to have taken it out. the shifting in it was pretty smooth, OD works, everything with the trannny is great. I just dont think theres too many takers on it down here...
  18. is the maxima 5 speed the same as the other datsun 5 speeds? is there anything special about the tranny that goes to the maxima? cause I found a good driveshaft but the tranny they want alot of money for, I found cheaper 5 speeds out of z's and a few other datsuns and I got the clutch pedal out of a maxima, so will the tranny from liek a 280z or zx fit in there? are the same length as a maxima 5 speed tranny?
  19. I wouldnt bother with the dash cap, get it redone, or redo it yourself, those dash caps never look good, recover that thing and you will be the envy of every datsun z owner I have ever seen almost. how does the underside look? crushed in frame rails? floor boards rusted through? how bad is it?
  20. nice maxima/810/910s, I have one myself, Starting the rolling restoration. any chance you know where I can get a blower housing?

    810!

the 1981-1984 datsun 810/nissan maxima IS a datsun 910 in every country except the united states. its a very well known car, its called a bluebird 910, so actually searching for that as opposed to maxima or 810 will render you many more parts from many more sources. there are only 2 differences between other countries 910's and our maxima, 3.9 inches longer in the hood engine area, and l24 engine. so if you prefer to call it an 810 that works too, but here is the only place they called it that. and actually your only saying you know as much as nissan by calling it a 910, but more than the government. i prefer to call mine a bluebird 910 since I have an 84'
  22. just got a phone call from phoenix rack and axle.......
