  1. Ah ok, just wondering because I want a new wheel for mine and that looks to be about the size I need :P
  2. That looks very nice. What size is that steering wheel?
  3. So since you stole my name (Jacob) I can have your car right? Thanks bro :) Really love this, so hard to decide on a 510 or 1200. Been looking for both, first one I find in my price range I'll probably pick up, then I'll run across a better one of the other veriety shortly after and kick myself...
  4. I gave the tercel away, bought an integra, traded the integra for a civic. Sad part is the tercel lasted longer than the integra and civic, just got totalled early last year. so from 16 till I was 24, the tercel survived :P
  5. Nice job man. I wish I had picked up a decent datsun for my first vehicle... I got stuck with a tercel and 8 years with the tercel owner's sister... Ah those teenage years, good and bad I guess.
  6. I love that green, but I'm partial to green :P I think that is very close to the color I was going to pint my old box integra.
  7. Love the new grille badge from Dime Dave over at FutoFab. Can't wait to get it on the 620.
  8. Ah thanks for the update datzenmike. That helps a ton. I will be sure to check the pinion gear. I'll even post a pick on here if I think about it since I'm sure others have asked this question before.
  9. Dat Lurka... If only this had been up 2 weeks ago... I just paid $700 for mine and it doesn't look this good and is a std cab :( Good luck with the sale. Hope you get what you want out of it.
  10. Really nice truck. What wheels are those? I like the stance, might have to copy you :)
  11. That is a nice color, but I also don't really like metallics on Datsuns. Unless your body is finished perfectly the metallics are going to show any imperfections. I personally prefer satin finishes on most cars 25+ years old, but then again it is all about what you like best. It looks like you have a lot more experience with painting and body work than I do so I'm sure this truck will turn out amazing even if it ends up Barney purple :P
  12. I absolutely love this truck. Just looks so perfect to me, which is funny cause my step dad is ticked that I want to do this to my 620. He keeps thinking that I'm going to give it to him when my civic is running... I have a feeling the civic will be sold to purchase a 1200 or 510 when the truck is done :P
  13. That is crazy. Looks like the rim just exploded from the center... Good thing it didn't do that while you were driving, and its awesome that they are replacing it. Down here you sign a liability waiver at almost every single shop. The will not replace rims and if they do it is with steelies.
  14. Very nice, I thank you both and my 620 thanks you as well :) Here is to hoping that it fits
  15. This is tragic. I'm glad you and your g/f are ok now. Look forward to seeing what you do with violet.
  16. As long as the hood is mountable and doesn't hit the cowl area when ou open it it will be much better than what I have. If you are able to send it down I can meet your buddy on his way back. I definately don't mind compensating him for his time. Just let me know if he feels that he can help us out with this.
  17. Oh wow, I feel tardid... Thank you for that. I can't believe I asked that question when all day I was talking with Datsun Parts LLC about their L28 build which are for... 280z-zxs... That was a real duh moment :P
  18. The problem with 70 in 4th wasn't the tranny really, it is a combination of things. For one my gas pedal bracket is bent, so I have very little pedal travel till it hits the floor. That is probably the biggest reason. Also, the manual choke on the retrofitted GM carb (gotta love thos shade tree mechanics) closes itself, meaning if I try to pick up speed I have to hold the choke lever where I want it... I have a pedal assembly coming in from another ratsun member and I will pick up a weber carb and a timing kit/chain (have a severe shearing metal rattle at high rpms) with my next check. Luckily this truck will not be doing any heavy hauling. Maybe a bed or dresser here and there, but no really heavy duty work (except maybe parts :P ). I'm glad this transmission will work without any special hardware, that clears up a lot of my worries.
  19. No more 70+ mph runs to work till I get the timing kit on... Sounded like my truck was shearing metal off when I hit 70 :(

pop the valve cover and check the chain.

That's my point. A slack chain will hew away the the head and valve cover. http://s5.postimage.org/g3069se9y/P1080638.jpg

Ouch. That just made me cringe a bit. Guess I have another project for this week.

  20. I was just picking at you man, still waiting on the next check so I can pick up some gauges if you have them. Gotta love playing the waiting game so you can get parts :(
  21. Alright, finally got everything rolling on a 5-speed. Picking up a 79 ZX 5-speed from DTP (thanks man :) ). New questions because the threads I have looked up give some slight differences of opinion. Will the 79 ZX tranny need to have a custom mount? I saw a post where someone stated that the Z or ZX (can't remember which) tranny is slightly tilted when bolted to an L series engine so I want to make sure I am prepared if I need a new mount. Will I want to remove my speed gear from the 4-speed to keep the speedo accurate? Currently the speedo isn't working correctly anyway which is most likely the speedo cable needing to be replaced, but I would like to eventually have an accurate speedo. Maybe I should just look into a GPS speedo? Should I worry about changing the rear gears? As far as I know I have the stock 74 620 gear set for a standard cab. I am looking for a good balance between highway mileage and decent take off speed. Nothing race worthy, but enough to be able to enter a main road from a side street without backing up traffic :P Again, I have looked for most of this information but there are a lot of different opinions. Having some overall concrete answers would be great so I can purchase everything I need for the swap and be prepared.
  22. Very nice. Glad you got those pics posted. Welcome to ratsun. Can't wait to see what you do to this truck. Eventually my engine may end up as nice as yours :P
  23. Adam, you should just ship me all the extra 620 parts you have :P I'll bid 1 carton of cigs, your choice on the brand
  24. So, driving home was fun... Got up to speed last night (about 70ish, maybe a little more) and started hearing a rough high paced rattle. I think I need a timing kit and possibly a chain... The more I work on this truck the more I believe my first impression was correct. I have a feeling the truck was sitting up somewhere, the PO rigged it to get it running, then decided to sell it before anything broke. That lovely little radiator... Its pretty full of rust. Called up Datsun Parts LLC and for the rebuild it would be about $1500 + $300 for a L20B core and $200 for shipping... I won't have that for 2-3 months sadly so it looks like band-aid time and hope it makes it till I can either get an engine and rebuild it myself, or let the pros build me one. You know you own a Datsun when half the money you make in a year is spent six months in advance...
  25. So I have been looking over a few builds and I am now trying to decide what I want to do with the hood... I originally wanted to replace the hood and use the stock latch, but now I am thinking replace hood and use hood pins... So guys, help me decide. I am going for a dark blue satin paint, satin black hood, probably black rallys, lowered stance, fender mirrors, ect. So the hood pins would not be out of the question because I am not looking for stock. Do I go with hood pins, flush mount pins (like the top secret set), or fix the stock latch system? Ofc the other cosmetics will be delt with in due time, but since I have my new grill coming in the mail (thanks Adam) I need to figure out how I am latching the hood. Once the grill goes on there is no more reaching behind it to manually release the hood :P
