  1. So I THOUGHT the second trans would be a breeze now that I have some experience. I can't get it to slide out... All the bolts are out except for the missing one on top. Perhaps there's a broken bolt in there. The other one slid right out after taking the bolts out. Any suggestions? after dinner I'm gonna wrap a chain around it and see if I can pull it out from the back
  2. So there's the Alfa, ford, datsun, and lada. Are they all based off the 2002?
  3. That's 30 miles that way -> I've seen it a few times. I know of one guy who has a long bed he uses on his farm about 45 miles from here. It has holes in the body the size of dinner plates. Eventually I own them all B)
  4. pulling second trans. all the long bolts where loose and upper passenger side is missing.

  5. Somewhere around here is an old lady driving a very nice red 620 with matching steelies with rings and moons.

And who will pass it down in her will to her son, and the son will end up scraping it.

  6. Cool. I saw every 620 in town today. They're both mine!
  7. Time to pull other 5 speed and out it in Sora. Then I'm gonna break open the old one and see if it's a mainshaft nut problem. If there's obvious damage inside then I'm just gonna put the 4 speed in.

A lot of five speeds around your parts of town?

  8. It's in 620 section under "Sora" Also, buyer had to loan someone the cash so he's not getting the truck today.
  9. I'm taking the 5 speed from the other truck. Gotta do it all over again. But now I know what I'm getting into. Getting the trans out took a while but the hardest part was that top bolt. Guess it wouldn't be so bad if you were a little Japanese guy. I was barely able to reach under the carb with a socket to get it loose then turn it out by hand. The 5 speed in the little brown funk machine has never given me problems and shifts ultra smooth. I'll probably put my 4 speed in it afterwards. Haven't tested to see if it works but was told it's good. When I'm done with the swap I'm gonna tear into the one I pulled tonight. Hopefully it just needs the shaft nut torqued down and a spot weld. Oh, after I put it up on end it drained maybe a quart of oil...
  10. Trans out. Now for breakfast, shower, and bed.

The rear ends of trucks where you can put items, like motors and wheels..

  11. Got nice and toasty then went out for round 4. Jacked up the tail and got under the front of the truck and kicked the motherfucker over the tortion bars. Jacked up the motor by the pulley, flipped the trans towards the driverside best I could and pushed it against the exhaust with both legs. Dropped it like its hot. Slung the bitch out from under the truck and stuck it in my dump bucket.
  12. Wow those are some nice peds! I've never had a Vespa but I drove a Zuma for a couple years and it was a blast. Biog bore + everything else = 60mph It blew up at 9800 miles. Still have it. Just need a top end.
  13. Taking a break by the fire to thaw my frozen back. I think I can get it out by removing the clutch cover. I can roll it towards driver side and clear the torsion bars. It's the starter hump that catches. I'm trying to avoid removing the torsion bar. Sounds like a bigger pita. Thanks guys. If only that one part of the frame was 4 inches farther back...
  14. Halp. I can't get the Z trans out from under my 620. Anyone have a guide or can talk me through it? Do I need to remove the piece that the shifter goes into? I got it back as far as I can get it and the top of trans is landing on the clutch plate. Do I need to turn the trans so I have more clearance in the back? http://community.ratsun.net/topic/51662-z-5-speed-jumping-out-of-5th/

I've always pulled them with the engine. But if you remove the radiator, and unbolt the engine mounts and slide it forward you get just enough clearance.

  15. Alright I'm having trouble dropping the transmission. Either the front lands on the clutch or the tail hits the floorboard. What am I missing here?
  16. I've never seen a rear end like the one I have. But then again I've never had a 78. It's finned on the front and has the funky semi circle bracket thingies on the bottom.
  17. thanks Also, the speedo is 10mph off. 40 is 50 etc. Is there a way to fix this? I didn't check but I think the tires are right. Figured it was because of the Z trans.
  18. Thanks Mike I'm gonna drop it tomorrow evening and take a look. Worth a shot before I fill it up with fresh oil.
  19. Junkyards around here have scrapped just about everything before 1998 I'm gonna fill it up and see if it fixes the grinding and noise. I can live without 5th gear.
  20. The belt is off. It spins freely but I was told the condenser leaks.
  21. Keep in mind I'm in nowheresville East Coast. The 5 speed in the other KC works great. Make one great truck out of two. Got a good 4 speed to put in.
  22. Thanks bananahannamananafanamana I'm gonna fill it with grease and add a bungee cord.....
