Stoffregen Motorsports
Nope, but I'd love to. Bring it by and I'll do it! Quote Link to comment

You know the old saying; "Watch what you wish for" ; Bring the brown paper bag with $$ and a contact #. Matt will make it happen. 1 Quote Link to comment
zeke5551
I do a lot of fabricating myself, so I would most likely do the work in my shop. I was concerned about finding a narrow enough rack to keep the geometry proper. Maybe in the aftermarket community I can find something 1 Quote Link to comment
zeke5551
The stock steering box is right where the alternator mounts on the TDI Jetta engine that's going in Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Look into center take-off racks. Instead of tie rods connecting to the ends of the rack like usual, they have a bar across where you can establish your own pivot points. 2 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Installing a steering box from a 720 and modifying your column to use an exposed shaft will give you some extra room. You can also convert the idler arm to 720 style for added clearance on the passenger side of the frame. I have a build thread here - - showing a 720 balljoint conversion on a 320. There are pics of the column mods to better explain what I'm talking about. Here are some pics. Edited October 9, 2022 by Stoffregen Motorsports Quote Link to comment

zeke5551
Great info, I got lots to figure out. I was just noticing the rack on my MGB is pretty narrow, might work Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
A Sprite rack is probably even narrower. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Rack width isn't that crucial, placement is. Rack placement chances bump and ackerman. Placement can also cancel out the bump. Being front steering gotta make sure you get a front steer rack. I would get power myself. 2 Quote Link to comment
