Field find 510 wagon

So my son and I bought this wagon out of a north Dakota farm field where it had been sitting since the mid 70's. At first I bought it for parts before I realized how clean it was. So now it has a new 1600 and a rebuilt automatic transmission.

After we got it home I stripped the interior out to find really clean floors

Yeah it's a 69 Mike. I've never seen one so original. All the wiring is untouched, it was never messed with. So when we got it to the shop we took a closer look and realized that at some point somebody drove a fork into the oil pan, so that engine was taken out and set aside. A good friend vintage races mini's and 510's and had a brand new stock 1600 that wasn't any use to him so that went in with a rebuilt automatic transmission..that cost more than 4 times what I paid for the wagon..lol

Interior was a little rough, front seats need recovering but rear seat came out ok.. kinda crunchy still.

The body is ok.. the drivers side doors were sideswiped by a tractor at some point so got some matching og painted ones from James Johnson. The front fenders need to be replaced at some point but for now they stay. 

The paint started to shine with just a single pass of compound.

Should have head restraints on front seats. They were optional on wagon rear seats.

I believe it does, I took the front seats out right away and haven't looked at them in a while.

I need to get some time on it and it still needs the fuel system gone through and all the brakes. I also have to try not to look at my 70 2dr that's been sitting for years as I work on this one..lol

Swap the old valve cover onto the new engine. It's the earlier fined right to the front and says 1600 on it. You'll need a new oil cap for it.

Yeah I have a few in stock just have to grab one off the shelf and clean it up. Waiting for a new gasket.

Matt I don't think they used salt in ND back then and this was only on the road a few years on too of that. Tags were 74 I believe.
