sick620
We (my girlfriend and I) recently purchased her a 521 truck and have been fixing it up slowly (we have a project thread here on ratsun)… The guy we got it from bought a big estate of cars from Montana with multiple Datsuns and brought them back to idaho, he also had this B210, at first I was going to pass but couldn’t help myself it’s in pretty good shape, I must have contracted ratsun-19… brought it home today! It’s a 77 I believe last registered in 1988… 23k on dash and pedals in good shape so I’m assuming 123k original miles! Edited January 18, 2022 by sick620 3 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That grill is a '77 and up. I see you changed it for the earlier. B-210 odometers only go to 99,999 and then back to zero. So 123,843 or 223,843 or more... Chewed carpet under gas pedal from cowboy boots and worn rubbers on the pedals specially the brake belie the 23k odometer. Did not know the B-210 came with over riders. Usually cars came with front and back as a pair. Unique. Hang onto those original wiper arms with the wing on them. I buy the rubber refills and change them rather that those tacky plastic things. 1 Quote Link to comment

Was ac rare on these cars? Has ac… is it worth trying to get the ac going? overriders meaning bar on front bumper? Judging by pedal wear how many miles do you think it has? Quote Link to comment
sick620
Anybody have one honeycomb hubcap? … waiting on the title, does anyone know how to tell year without the door badge? It’s missing Quote Link to comment
420n620
looks like a nice score. Believe the mileage is original cause the clutch/brake pads are not worn through, carpet is presentable, not all fuckered up from a Montana cowboy boots. I might have a hubcap of that style, I'll make a note. a girl locally purchased a late b210 with 1000 original miles but it's hatchback, she purchased it from her Gma. The only damage was the left rear 1/4 which has been fixed and now sitting in a 2 car garage hidden. I know of several b210's sitting up on the hill, let me know if your look for ?????? Springs just around the corner and I've been wanting to swing by but snow drifts are bad in that area. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Looks like points, can you pull the rotor off? and a picture of the coil and around it? If it is a points distributor this would confirm a pre '78 car. Naturally, a points engine could have been swapped in. Quote Link to comment

That would be awesome if you had a hubcap and I’ll definitely start making a parts list soon… I still think about the time you came down and looked off to the side of i84 and found a 510 wagon sitting, and I kick myself for not looking better and finding it myself lol… 1 Quote Link to comment

slowlearner
Hard to tell without taking the cap off. I thought most of them came with a module but I guess everything has been shrunk down with digital electronics. Reminds me of these... datzenmike
Definitely points so '74-'77. Maybe '77, likely a '77. The '78 cars and trucks all had the remote igniter EI ignitions and some of the earlier California emission vehicles. The remote igniter box was mounted out of the weather inside the cab of the vehicle. The following year '79 saw the electronics miniaturized down into a small 'matchbox' EI module mounted on the side of the distributor. 1 Quote Link to comment

Sold it to a Rat member which still has it today. 1 Quote Link to comment
sick620
Started buffing and removed trim pieces… if this was your car would you just go straight into freshening up the motor, or do you think there’s a chance it will run and and not smoke too bad? I just ordered and am waiting on an ignition(missing just the ignitions with has key and lock), fuel pump, carb rebuild kit, and fuel filter… gonna go through fuel system before I try to start it…. should I try to run it with this old motor? Should I put a little oil in cylinders before I run it to try and give rings a chance to seal? Quote Link to comment
420n620
1st do a compression test without oil. Get a base line. now squirt some oil in the cylinder's and get comp test. Have you checked the valve adjustments ? Before taking 1st test ? Since the 210 has sit for a while, the rings will most likely need to re-sit. If it's running, take it out on the country road and get the speed up to 60 and then let off, let the compression slow the 210 down until it gets to 45 then run it back up to 60 ( don't baby it ) and continue do do this for the next 5 to 7 miles. 1 Quote Link to comment
Motorvated
Congrats on the 210! I'm keen to see how you go as I have a 2 door sedan too Quote Link to comment

I'd personally get it running first, then do a comp test after that. But like you said, getting the rings freed up is going to help a lot. My 510 sat in a shed for 20 years and runs smoke free now. It's not making a ton of power, but it got through inspection just fine. Once you've got your inspection done, throw in whatever motor you like and keep the original as a back up. 😉 1 Quote Link to comment
sick620
So some updates… I was going to have to wait for the title, but look what I found in the glove box… the title! 😁 96,000 miles in 1984 last registration in 1988 123k original must be correct mileage for it … it got new spark plugs in 1988 as well so those are probably in good shape lol 😂 edit: also christened the car officially with the symbol of the all mighty ratsun rat n wrenches Edited January 18, 2022 by sick620 1 Quote Link to comment

This will show that oil is in the oil journal's and you won't end up with a rod knocking. That's awesome on finding the title. 1 Quote Link to comment

sick620
well it was quite the undertaking because it was pretty gross and stinky but I knew that I should start stripping the interior. it was so filthy and I didn’t even want to sit in the car… as I lifted carpet I was so surprised how nice the floors were and rust free, until I got to the front section 😔… the underside of the carpet and pad was so damp I knew without looking there was going to be rust.. as I hit the floor with the back of my screwdriver my heart sank 😞 …. I’ll probably just hit it with the flapper disc and por 15 whatever’s left of ok material, and self tap of couple sheets of metal over it so it’s functional and not rusting much further… then this will have to be the first major project after the car runs and drives… it’s mostly just the section where the occupants feet rest 🤦♂️… when I first saw the car before I ever planned on purchasing it The window was rolled down, so I rolled it up thinking “poor Datsun doesn’t want rained inside of” well however long that window was rolled down obviously took a toll… car is pretty rust free besides the obvious couple spots on the back sides of body… rockers look great and rest of underside isn’t too bad either.. but man does this take the wind out of my sails… Edited January 19, 2022 by sick620 Quote Link to comment

420n620
don't worry so much about the rust issues, it's just metal and can be repaired. If you got a friend or money to buy a 110 welder, thats 2 options ya got. Maybe time to purchases one, welders are cheap today. See Kelmo stepped up on the hubcap, off the list now. 🙂 Got to tell you about rolling windows up on vehicles, bad deal, I got a 67 Lemans 4 dr hdtp, windows were up tight, now the front windshield is lose and I'm sure the floor is bad condition. It's a super low mileage Pontiac, not Fnn happy. Now my cars that sit outside have their side windows down a 1/4 inche to keep moisture from building up. Quote Link to comment
