The stock ones move fine and only break if you replace the bushings with poly.

For some vehicles set up for track/autocross etc, greater caster is applied.  This shortening changes the angle of the rod increasing stress on a straight member, whereas the ball joint allows free rotation over a much greater range.

Isn't shortening the tension rod to increase caster pulling the LCA forward trying to bend the transverse link?????

Really it effs up both, and the T/C connection at the LCA. In stock form there really is no adjustment that doesn't put those three points into bind. Just picture a tubular metal triangle with welded corners...section a piece out of one of the sides and try to close the gap.

If you install monoballs at the LCA pickup points, there is no binding. Also, one old trick is to mount the TC rod on the bottom of the LCA for less bump steer, but usually bump steer spacers under the strut are good enough.

We used to machine the TC rod in a lathe to get more adjustment. We were limited to using stock parts in our ITC race cars but some mods were allowed.
