Pac Coast let me know about this place. I met him on NWDE.org but recently it's been a huge pain to do/search things on there so here I am.

My first car ever was a 1971 Datsun 510 2 door that I bought from a UCSC student for $200 when I was 15, $2000 later (paint, wheels, blah blah) I had to go to college and my old Dime just wasn't up to snuff cutting it long distance driving (or around town driving to be honest, but I always managed to limp it home...the car that is!). Now that I have a stable job I still love my Datsuns and even thought I could literally buy a brand new luxury car, I still prefer my Datsuns for my fun cars.

I bought my truck to do small runs to the dump and picking up larger items when remodeling my place...but now my CRX HF handles most of those duties and while getting 50mpg, no way my Datsuns pulling that off

I own a 1971 Datsun 510 2 door with a KA24DE swap, 5 sd, full roll cage, stock (for now) interior, bubble flares, blah blah pictures do it best

I own a 1970 Datsun 521, with a dogleg tranny, webber, blah blah pics again will do it better.

Here's some pics of my 521 truck.

When I first got it the seats were horribly painful on my back!!!

So I came up with these 'plans' lol to install 1999 Honda Civic Seats into my rig

CURRENT SEAT RAIL SET UP WAS LIKE THIS:

Pics of my 510

As it looked when I picked it up in San Diego (with the heavy and IMO ugly MOMO wheels, not to mention the illegal window tint)

But this is why I loved it...

Soon after I bought some 15" Watanbe RS-8 wheels from Japan

So then I slapped on some new H4 lights

And just last week I finally got my new 16" Panasports on my ride to fill up the tire wells/fenders a little better.

Nice collection! Great to have you on the board :D So what did you use to remove the paint from the grill? I also love the KA install, its really clean. I also noticed that in the last few pics of your dime the chrome or black trim in your case is gone, are you getting it rechromed?

Link to comment

Hey Icehouse, yeah I took off my trim and bumpers cause I had planned to have it painted but then I had to put things on hold late last year when my girlfriend decided to finally move from the East coast and move in with me...so now I've been too lazy to put it on cause I am eventually going to get it painted. Plus I plan on taking the black paint off to see what condition the chrome is after those monkeys at Maaco painted it for the previous owner.

If necessary I may get it re-chromed or buy new ones...who knows.

As far as getting the paint off the grill it was a few things. First I used Cusco (?) paint stripper in gel for to get in the nook and crannies. Let it bubble up and used a toothbrush to remove it. It was funny one particular day it was hot as hell outside and I had the tin can of that stripper stuff out and it was hot, well when I put it on it immediatly bubbled the paint. No waiting...so I'm may try that again when if I strip the paint off my Watanabe's RS-8's! I also used different grits of sand paper to get it from rough to nice and shiny!

Yeah the KA was swapped at McKinney Motorsports in San Diego by the previous owner, so I didn't have to mess with it.

Thanks for the welcome Tangent!

Yeah I like how it fills up the wheel well better with 16's. I just found out that Rotas are making 17" wheels...but then again when I've seen dimes with Rota's I don't know what it is but there is just something about them that I don't quite like..but shoot for 17's! LOL...but I'm super happy with my Panas, I just need to put the caps on but I'm afraid of them getting ripped off! I got a great deal on them brand new so I couldn't pass them up.

Thanks for the welcome 71-521!

and my 50mpg beast in mid wheel swap getting rid of the heavy 15" cast wheels with light 13" alloys to get better MPG!

Thanks for the welcome guys, it's great being here with other fellow Datsun guys!

Hey Mark, thanks for telling me about this place. Yeah just trying to get on NWDE was a chore now a days but after reading some of the info from why most people left, I learned things I didn't even know. I didn't know NWDE was a club! I just thought it was a website devoted to Datsuns! I found it to be a great source for information that's for sure!

I looked u up on yahoo last night but you weren't around. Maybe I'll catch you later.

Now when are you coming up to do some body work on my rig??? Maybe then you can pick up the Titan wheels? :P

LOL!

Why aren't you going with the 18's? I had a set on my old 521, I thought they looked good. I was going to put them on my 620 but they made it to slow :D

If I was next to you guys I would help with the body work :D

Icehouse:

I was thinking about putting them on but I need to concentrate on my 510 cause I have to many cars (4) and I wouldn't wince in getting rid of my 521 parts as much as my 510 parts. Man I sure wish you guys lived closer, someone with body work skills and welding skills are good friends to have!

i actually like the 4drs .. and wagons.. i like all 510's, overall the car needs a new exhaust and some tuning.. maybe some flat black paint here an there to cover where the over spray is it needs the rest of the trim an bumpers and for looks an feel some better seats.. also would use some suspension mods.. or replaced .. or dont take people in the back seat.. like i said.. its straight and low on rust!! hehe so its a keeper.. always upgradeable.. an i'll take pics myself if he gets it
