Satdun027
81 king cab 4x4 California. I’ve started the process of getting to my clutch. I’m going in through the bottom of the truck. Does the differential need to come out completely or can I just move it to one side? Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
ClumsyBird
Honestly, I would just take the engine out and do it that way. Thats how I did mine and it took me and two friends about 2 hours to pull it. Even the factory service manual calls to just pull the transmission with the engine, there's far too much stuff to take off for it to be time effective 5 Quote Link to comment
captain720
Ditto that clumsy, only way to do it and pulling the motor is easy! 3 Quote Link to comment

captain720
I have gone out the bottom before, would not at all ever recommend I was replacing T-Case as well, had to take off every manner of thing front diff included. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You don't need to remove the transmission for a clutch change... pull the engine out so it easy to get at. You will need to support the front of the transmission. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Out the bottom is brutal. I've done a number of 720 clutches and only once did it out the bottom. Every other time I've pulled the engine. As counter to good reason as it sounds, it really is the better option to pull the engine. 2 Quote Link to comment
