datsoonlovr
I recently purchased Nismo racing head gaskets for me A14 engine. When I received the gaskets it had a sticker on the package saying basically "not for street use". I thought that the racing gaskets would be a better quality then the FelPro gaskets that I had previously used. Any one had any experience with these head gaskets??? Thanks Jim Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They may be thinner and technically would raise the compression, a no no for emissions. That's the only thing I can think of. Otherwise who would know? or care?? Do you need to pass emissions testing? 1 Quote Link to comment
Rick-rat
No you can't, they are for racing only, they won't hold up as well as the proper gasket made for everyday use Welcome to Ratsun Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
I've run the Nismo L-series gasket on the street with no issues, and my 95% street driven Toyota only gets all metal head gaskets, because of the 12:1 compression ratio, and have never had a problem with those. You just have to make sure the gasket surfaces are flat, and smooth. 1 Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
I had a NISMO gasket on my LZ, worked great. Absolutely no reason why you couldn't use it. 3 Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
I have some that I plan to use. They are engineered better than your run of the mill NAPA or auto parts items. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Better quality and required if your engine is higher compression or modified, otherwise a $20 NAPA gasket will work fine. If you have one use it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tom1200
To clarify which Nismo gasket; there is the GX head gasket .8 crush thickness and the race gasket which is .6 crush thickness. Use an online compression calculator to figure compression ratio. Note the both the gaskets have 79mm bore (stock is 76) it has not erect other than on compression ratio. We used the GX gasket for something like 10 seasons with no issue whatsoever. Depending on what pistons and what head you have the compression ratio could be as high as 10.5-1 but it's more likely to be around 9.8-1 Quote Link to comment
