alecvkent
looking to upgrade to a 5 speed tranny and found one on ebay for what seems like a reasonable price of 900 but i'm finding a couple different things that confuse me. mine is a 75' B210 and the tranny is for a 79-82 210. the ad says also that it had F in the start of serial number and a "60" cast into right side. and embedded in it is B310. I appreciate the help y'all Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
900???...... dollars!!!! No transmission is worth that. And a used one as well?? Run away. It's an FS5W60... A or L . The L is a dogleg shift pattern with reverse above first and only the '79 had it, the A is a regular shift pattern with 1st above 2nd. These 5 speeds are hotly sought out by MG owners who are desperate for a 5 speeds and have driven the price up over 3 times what they are worth. Up to you but I wouldn't pay that much. Offer $250 and got to $300 leave your phone number. Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
Yep 900$ is insane, I've seen rebuilt ones going for $600-800. I've purchased more than one of these for under 200$, and Datzenmike is dead on with $250-300 being the going price. Post a wanted ad, or hit up the ratsun facebook. I know a couple people in the Oregon area with ones for sale. Quote Link to comment

wayno
I guess $900.00 would seem reasonable compared to what the MG guys are paying for the 5 speed kits, but most of us Datsun guys don't like spending money, especially considering that these transmissions could be had used for a $100.00 less than 10 years ago. Sierra
I don't think $900 is that crazy. Yes, high end price, specially since the ad is cater for GM buyers. I payed $600 about two years ago, for mine. I guess, It all depends on your geographical location. Maybe in OR or WA you can come up with better prices due to availability. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If you drive in traffic or in town not much sense as it won't get used. You would need to be on the highway an awefull lot for the gas savings to be worth it and starting $900 in the hole is.... If think your car will go faster with a 5 speed, this is not the case. Most likely it will go faster in 4th. Quote Link to comment
