DrvnDrvr
Is that a black headlight sprayer nozzle in your bumper just forward of the headlight? 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Yes. And I don't know how original it is. It was required by law in Sweden until we joined the european union in the 90s and had to change a lot of our special regulation for vehicles. However this truck is a grey import, sold new in Germany and imported when it was some months old, and Germany did not have a headlamp washer law...so it may be mounted as an afterthought when it was first registered here. Since they don't need to work anymore, I doubt that they are even connected..... 2 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
It doesn't appear that you have any windshield washer nozzles on your hood, interesting.. 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Well, to be honest I just have forgotten to put them back after the repainting....thank you for reminding me. 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
I was going to put the washer nozzles back when I suddenly did remember why I didn't do it before, they were broken. As always when rare car parts breaks, Volvo parts can be adapted to fit...Took those from my S70 that is going to the junkyard and carved a bit in the plastic, so now I finally have a working washer again. 2 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
How did your headlight changeover work out? 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Good, anything special you wonder about? Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
How much bigger the field of light is compared to originals mostly. Is it close to what the packaging claims? Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Well, it's a bit hard to say really, I have some electrical issues that makes the light dim on the drivers side that I have to fix first...But since the reflectors were almost brown on the old lights, they didn't do much good......No wonder since it was almost an aquarium in each one of them... So at least it is a bit brighter....but I come back when I have fixed the wiring too. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
maybe run a H4 relay wiring harness to fix the dim light on the right side. So you only use the orginal harness to trigger the new harness which get the power from the battery. 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
I think that it is more like bad grounding somewhere..... But the electrics on a 720, especially the headlight wiring, are only good at one thing, driving you mad....... 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
japanese use a switched ground system on most there older cars/trucks 2 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Wait a minute here, you switched to different headlights, are you sure the headlights are wired the same as the square headlights the 720 has, I found when I switched over to round headlights on my 720 I had to switch two wires, the headlight plug forms a "U" shape, the bottom of the "U" stays where it is, but the sides of the "U" have to be reversed, I made a pigtail from another headlight plug for both sides. Do not add a ground to the 720 headlight circuit, it has no grounds on the headlight wiring side of the relay, if you add a ground everything goes bad and your battery could drain over night and then it will not start. 2 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I would measure the voltage on the dim proplem side. Jaop cars/truck have 12volts to the lamps all the time. ground the negative on volt meter than measure the + side and see if its same volatage as batter or is it say 11 or 10 volts. Then you know you have a voltage drop soemwhere and can work on that. or ohm out the ground side using the ohm scale and see if high resisitance there. compare using the good working side as a example On my 521 truck I have a H4 harness(cheap made in China) but the connections have burnt a few times and I will get a dim light. I just recrimp or sand the connections till they work. 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Well, since this one already had H4 headlights, nothing has changed in that way.... It was almost impossible back then to get the truck registered in Sweden with sealed beams, the safety inspection really didn't like them, sure they have become more forgiving nowadays, but it probably have had halogens at least since it was imported to Sweden, I don't know if they were sold with halogens or sealed beams in Germany though....But the previous owner made a mess out of the headlamp wiring when trying to "fix" some problems that was caused by some short circuit in a bulb.... So I had no high beams at all... It worked for a while when I installed new wiring that was connected like the original, but I have some problems again....probably my own fault...was too much in a hurry to make it pass the safety inspection....So, I have to take a look at it again. 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
First of all, excuse me for all the pictures that is dead.... :( Swapped in the first Ford Escort seat today, started with the passenger side if it would cause any problems, now I know what to do on the drivers side… I guess that this will work well, it is about the same height as the drivers seat (Mazda 626) now, but the Mazda seat is adjusted all the way to the bottom, the passenger seat from the Ford is not adjustable and is about as high as the drivers seat are in the highest position, so probably I will gain some centimeters if I crank the Ford drivers seat all the way down… 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Both Escort seats in place, and I can only say that I am satisfied.Much better driving position than with the Mazda seats, and more space under the steering wheel for the legs. 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Got the cans of paint today so I stole a picture of someone elses truck because I am lazy, and started doodling... ? Swedish M90 camo in the planning, and the colours are a fair bit off, I know puke green aren't a very good camo colour... ? 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Fenders still in need of some rust repair before painting but at least most of the truck is painted now..... 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
A possible design for the front bumper. Turn signals/parking lamps are probably going to be swapped out for BMW E39 (5-series mid 90s-early 00s) side indicators since they are available with both white and amber lenses and have quite a neat format. Amber parking lamps are not allowed in Sweden. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Looks great just be careful you don't block too much air flow over the radiator with the bumper and lights in the grill 1 Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
Yeah, of course that's one thing to consider, on the other hand, when running a diesel in this climate you rarely get cooling problems anyway.... 😄 One could of course always drill some holes in the middle part of the bumper and get some airflow that way. Three auxillary lights in front of the grille is almost standard equipment on vehicles here where there is almost six months of darkness in a year 😛 3 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
That is a common theory, but in practice? I have never actually had the airflow problem. If it has a fan, the air will find a way, unless of course, the blockage is physically covering the intake hole, ie - grille. 2 Quote Link to comment
