Lockleaf
The oil pressure sending unit on these motors is British Pipe thread I believe. Someone correct me or back me up on that though. 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
Yes, I believe that is correct. It's a pipe thread for sure. 1 Quote Link to comment
hovercraft
How did you hook yours up then? 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
All my fittings were pipe threaded. Meaning, the actual threads are a tapered fit. 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
I wouldn't be surprised if your oil pressure sender is pipe threaded as well. Just try it. Quote Link to comment
hovercraft
If you go back on page two there's a picture you can zoom into of the motor and see there's a sensor on the motor between the oil tube and the filter. Is that where it goes ? 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Oil pressure sender is 1/8" BPT. All you need is a lamp and a 12 volt source. Sender grounds below 8PSI.... light come on. Get a 720 4x4 sender and a 720 4x4 gauge set. This gives you battery voltage and oil pressure gauges. Temp sender goes into thermostat housing. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Stock 720 4x4 has an oil pressure sending unit that operates both a gauge and the idiot light. The gauges are independent 2" gauges that can be put anywhere. I'm running that and the companion volt meter in my 510 and also in my 240sx (and my 720, but it came with them). I like them because they also match the other gauges well and look stock. These are the gauges. The sender is the gold can right behind the filter. Seen again here in the middle. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes!! Those will mount just about anywhere too. 1 Quote Link to comment

hovercraft
It has a 2 wire hitachi alternator. When I hooked it up my battery voltage read 16.7 is that right 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
High 14s is the highest you should be seeing at. Usually between 13.5 and 14.5 volts is what you want to see. 1 Quote Link to comment
hovercraft
What do I need to do differently ? 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
My first guess would be voltage regulator issue. Is it an internally or externally regulated alternator? 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
What do I need to do differently ? I'd get a Saturn alternator, or KA alternator. They are both easy to find and are both internally regulated. 2 Quote Link to comment
hovercraft
The battery I was using I had to jump before I started it. Would that have any effect? 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
The battery I was using I had to jump before I started it. Would that have any effect? No, it would only charge to slightly over 12v. Sounds like you are running an externally regulated alternator without the regulator. I'm guessing you wouldn't an external regulator on the craft.. but if you did you could get one dirt cheap. More stuff to mess with though.. more wires. 1 Quote Link to comment
hovercraft
How would I wire regulator up 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
Just like this diagram minus the two jumper wires. 1 Quote Link to comment
