MikeRL411
If that plane flew out of Australia, I would hope it was the B17 that found the Japanese Battleship Mushashi! Twin to the Yamato. Its [the Mushashi] remains have recently been located. Now where is the third super battleship that was redesignated as a hull to be converted to an Aircraft Carrier until it was spotted and completely destroyed by Allied bombardment while on its way to the [i think] Kobe fitment port for further refitment. 2 Quote Link to comment
Jesse C.
Boeing/Vega XB-38 test platform for Allison V-12 Engines, just in case they didn't have enough radials to go around. Lost to an in flight fire, crew bailed out and the project was cancelled. 2 Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
By the way, the navy several years ago found the wreckage of the Macon and recovered these on board defensive "trapese launched / recovered" fighter planes! Don't know if they were sufficiently de-salted to permit at least "presentation grade" display. Quote Link to comment

It has been declared a Historical Site and nothing has been taken from her. All planes, four, are still there. Quote Link to comment
