redskunk
nice work on restoring the looks so far...and I dont blame you at all for re-doing the electrical because sloppy/out-of-place wiring drives me crazy lol! thanks! Quote Link to comment
redskunk
I've been busy with work and other stuff. I haven't had personal time with working on the wiring and working on the truck. Other than that, I still need to re-do the engine harness too. But more to come maybe this weekend, I need to stop lagging and get this truck running again. Quote Link to comment

redskunk
So after the long slow process of getting the wiring layed out and heatshrinked (loomed), I'm finally crimping the terminal pins for the circular connector. I ordered some male and female pins for my Souriau circular connector awhile back through Allied Electronics. I didn't realize how expensive the special crimping tool was. I ditched the idea of buying the crimp tool and went to Fry's Electronics to find a cheaper alternative. So I did. The cheaper generic crimp tool I found works okay on crimping the tiny pins onto the wire, with some extra effort of using a needle nose plier. But below are pictures of me attempting to finish the harness. The first one I did. And it was a success! I did a twist and tug test to ensure the pin and wire was crimped tightly. So far so good! Heres the pin remover I bought for a few bucks and customized. The Souriau pin remover was kinda pricey. But this does the same. It alows me to modify my harness in the future if i ever need to. Here's a template diagram I created using Illustrator. I'm using it to map out where I want the pins to seat in. redskunk
Made labels for the wires. All clean and ready to be inserted into the connector housing. 2 Quote Link to comment

redskunk
Did u happen to ask if they had anymore glass? I think I bought the last windshield from them. I can call again to see if they have anymore. Where you located? Quote Link to comment
redskunk
I found time this labor day weekend to put the dash back in. There are still some wiring for the brake light and emergency brake switch wires I have to clean up. As you can see, they are dangling under the dash. But for the most part, I got the main dash harness set and ready to be plugged in. The custom plate and connector I built. Here's how it looks on the inside. (I've already mapped out/inserted the wiring and pins into the connector) Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Nice clean work. I like that you labeled individual wires for ease of connecting and also future identification. 1 Quote Link to comment
redskunk
So....no progress lately. I'm itching to get this done soon. I've been going to the junkyard lately, and collecting parts and miscellaneous stuff. But I will finish up the engine harness soon. And more pics. Then afterwards, either cleaning or upgrading the fuel tank and carburetor. Quote Link to comment
redskunk
As much as I wanna get this truck running and done, I just don't really have time/money/motivation for it anymore. The weather is beginning to get cooler. I'm just afraid of it sitting over the winter. But today I just found some inspiration on doing some more work. Just when I almost gave up and forgot about my truck, a new part came in. :D The MONEY SHOT! Quote Link to comment

redskunk
great job on the wiring. Hope I can do the same Thanks Farmer. And yes you can, with just a little time, patience, few diagrams and a whole bunch of mapping it out. Quote Link to comment
redskunk
Finally, the engine wiring harness begins (after a long ass time). I found some time last night to get some stuff done. I made some wire labels to organize the wiring. They are ready to be heatshrinked. Oh, and on top of that I was able to find a replacement door and single glass rear windshield from a donor truck. I'll keep you guys updated... My crimp tool sucks, I had to work with what tools I had. More labels... 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I like the labeling detail you are using. Where did you source the plug you are using? Quote Link to comment
redskunk
I like the labeling detail you are using. Where did you source the plug you are using? It took me a while to find an inexpensive circular plug connector. I bought the parts from Allied Electronics. There are other companies that supply them too, but you just gotta find what you want. I wanted to get a Mil Spec metal connector by Deutsch but they get very expensive, and the tools cost way too much. You can also check out ChaseBays on chasebays.com Quote Link to comment

JoeCool
Wow! That is coming out nicely. And that electrical wiring looks like a nightmare! I have been a mechanic for 16 years, and I hate electrical and electronics, not my forte! 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Dont want to bust your bubble to much but You sure that connector wasnt made for female pins???? Ok really you should use female pins on that Connector.100% positve! Male the pins would be sunk more back, the rim around it would be flush to the edge Look s like a cheaper MS or Amphonol type connector(all work good) as female pins feeds the POWER side. amde male will be the receptacal as female are protected to pins dont short out on the metal. scanning back a page the bulk head coonector on the fire wall would use the male pins and it would be flush with the outer rim (round part ) but not excedd the height of the rim 1 Quote Link to comment

You're right banzai510(hainz).... I just realized that....I think to save me time on having to cut the wires and re-pin the wall mount receptacle and the cable connector, I'm gonna have to order a new wall mount receptacle that accepts the female socket contacts and a cable connector to accept the male pin contacts. I was also thinking maybe de-pinning all the female and male contact pins. Flip both the connectors around and re-pin them back in to the proper connector... 1 Quote Link to comment
redskunk
So I ordered new connectors from Allied Electronics to fix the problem. Good thing is that they did have the connectors to solve this mistake i made. I originally ordered part number: UTG01823PN & UTG61823SN. But to correct this small issue i made with the pin inserted into the wrong plug, I had to order part number: UTG61823PN & UTG01823SN 1 Quote Link to comment
