Josh_509
This Datsun has been sitting in a barn for years....Never has been worked on. The carb is bad. I just ordered a weber for it.I have questions on the suspension. What shocks and or springs have you used, how do I lower the 710.What is the bolt pattern, so I can buy some rims for it.Anyone have any interior pieces, or are some interchangeable from other models?I am a newbie. 21 years old, and this is my first project.Any help would be great, thank you. 2 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Welcome. The bolt pattern is 4 x 4 1/2 or 4 x 114.3mm, this is the standard Datsun 4 lug pattern I'm not a 710 guy but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to answer the rest your questions. I suggest posting some pics to wet their appetites. :) 1 Quote Link to comment

LenRobertson
Yeah, we gotta see pics ASAP! Here is the How-to Post Pics thing if you need it: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/691-how-to-post-pictures-and-keep-online-photo-albums/ My current dream car is a 710 wagon, but I'm cheap and don't want to drive to the ends of the earth to find one, so I guess I'll keep dreaming for awhile longer. It is funny how there are a lot of Datsuns over here in the Spokane area, but you never see a 710. I've passed up a couple of 610 goons, cause I like 710s more. Here is a starting point for suspension mods: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/17682-my-island-74-710/page-3 This is page 3 of several pages, but I think this is where the suspension talk starts. This is for a wagon, but the front should be the same as any 710. For info on rear suspension, go to the "Project Datto" or 610/710 subheading under "Cars". You should find plenty of ideas to use up your time and money for a few months! :D Okay, now I'll sit back and wait for the pics. Len Quote Link to comment
Will
I hope that the Weber transplant is a success and you can get it fired up again. Has it been sitting so long that the brakes and engine are frozen? ...getting rims and lowering it might be kinda "putting the cart before the horse." You might want to make sure that the basic stuff is repairable before you spend too much money on the suspension and rims/tires. I don't want to rain on your parade here, but sometimes cars can get some nasty problems from sitting too long. ...though lots of times Datsuns come back to life with a bit of gas poured down the carb and a jump-start! 1 Quote Link to comment
Will
Oh, and welcome to the site - there aren't too many 710s left out there, but there are lots of 710 people on this site who would be happy to answer your questions and help you get another 710 back on the road. Here is some inspirational reading: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24412-my-76-710-goon/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/33242-1976-wagoon-710/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/56047-my-75-710-build/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/17682-my-island-74-710/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/55042-blackmarkit-710-daily/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/34485-710-project-thread/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/34157-indys-ka710-wagoon-160j-sse-replica/ 3 Quote Link to comment
LenRobertson
A great thing to have is a factory service (not owner's) manual for you car. If you go to eBay and search for Datsun 710 factory service manual you will find several for not much money. The FSM has a whole lot of information not found in a Haynes or Chilton book. The other good book if you don't have a lot of experience with working on cars is "How to Keep Your Datsun Alive" http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=how+to+keep+your+datsun+alive You can find it on eBay too. Unfortunately, it isn't a common book, hence the $60 prices. I'd get the FSM first. Len Quote Link to comment
Will
A lot of manuals are available online as .pdf files if you do a bit of searching - here is a .pdf Factory Service Manual for the L20B engine (from the 200sx manual) http://cdn.preterhuman.net/texts/automotive/Nissan_Model_L20b_Engine.pdf Quote Link to comment
Josh_509
Thanks for all the information, I'll probably have the pics up tomorrow from Photobucket.I am currently at work. Mine has the L20b with a 3sp automatic transmission. The interior is shot.I am going to strip it on Monday. The door panels are salvageable. The dash needs quite a bit of work. The ignition system is setup to a start button.Kind of strange, but it's been in the family for a long time.Sat for like 10 years. LenRobertson
I don't know if you know what stale gas smells like if you take off the gas cap and give it a sniff. If the 710 sat that long, there is a good chance the gas isn't the best. Some Datsuns have a drain plug in the bottom of the tank, but I can't be sure about a 710. You can siphon out the old gas if there isn't a drain on the tank. One of my Datsuns I dumped some fresh gas in with the old gas thinking it would mix and be "good enough" to run. I ended up siphoning it all back out and putting in all fresh gas. I also had dried-out gas blocking the gas line from the tank to the fuel pump and had to spray carb cleaner in both ends of the line, let it soak, then blow out with compressed air. Did this a few times and the line was clear. But if your 710 was somewhere out of the sun all the years you may not have the same problems. I've heard the stories of Datsuns sitting for years and starting right up, but I don't know if that works here in E Washington. If you have wiring to clean up, the FSM has easy to read wiring diagrams. Some of the FSM even have detailed diagrams for the different electrical systems which makes them easier to follow compared with the overall diagram for all the electrics. Len Quote Link to comment
Josh_509
Thank you, I will clean that out.I will check FSM for the wiring diagrams! Pics will be posted in a couple hours. Not off work yet Quote Link to comment
Josh_509
Just ordered a Weber 32/36 that comes on an A46 manifold, spark plugs, wires, and the chrome pieces for the grill. Looking to lower it as well. I ordered chassis saver too Quote Link to comment
Will
It doesn't look too bad - do you know why it was taken off the road in the first place? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Haha, it got the wrong carb on it - a 1-bbl. Datsuns come from the factory with a 2-bbl carb. The Weberis the way to go. Quote Link to comment

Josh_509
It doesn't look too bad - do you know why it was taken off the road in the first place? Carb wasn't working right. It has a Dodge Slant 6 single barrel carb on it. Don't really know why haha. I took out the gas tank, it was rusted out bad. Had a hole in it. I stripped the trunk and I am working on getting all the rust removed. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
Instead of getting an old worn out weber, you can buy a brand new one jetted for the engine from redlineweber. Quote Link to comment

About 5 1/2 hours according to Google Maps. .I'll PM you a link to my Flickr page with lots of pics of my F10. It has some rust problems as you will see. Are your goons running? I've never gotten a running Datsun yet. I'm not sure I could bond with one without doing days of work on it first! Len Quote Link to comment
