mattyhacks71
10/1969 Datsun 510 Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
If it's the same 3spd automatic that my 73' 610 has, the part number from Napa is 1-5127. I know the 71-73 510 had the same transmission. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Oct 1969 build is a 1970 model year. My 1969 510 had the Borg Warner automatic. Well in any case you know which filter is the wrong one. So get the other one. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
I think the proper code is FT1045A. That comes with the gasket. Was used on a few other cars as well. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Same Borg Warner auto that comes in the 411s. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Up to April '71 several variants of the BorgWarner 35 were used in the 510. From April '71 the in house JATCO 3N71B was used. BTW for about 3 months the column shift was retained before switching to the floor shift in the '72 model year. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
As noted above, 2 different Borg Warner automatic transmissions were used in the 510. The early models used the British Borg Warner with a mechanical downshift cable. Later models used the Muncie Indiana unit with vacuum downshift. If you have a cable snaking its way down the driver's side of the engine block then you have the British made unit. Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
Mike do you happen to have a source for getting the downshift cable for the early Borg Warner Trans. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
nope. If you have the old one you might get one made to match. A friend used to have a motorcycle shop and he custom made brake and clutch cables. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I do not have one for a sample so please if you run across 1 keep me in mind. I think that AZHitman (Greg) ended having one done by a motorcycle shop for Alice his 67 411 Wagon. Quote Link to comment
mattyhacks71
Thanks for the help guys, I was able to get the stuff at a local trans shop Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Be VERY cautious about replacing the British Borg Warner downshift cable! Best left to a transmission shop that really knows what they are doing. You must tap into the internal hydraulics, install a pressure meter and then really know what you are doing otherwise there is a short time period to do the adjustment without frying the transmission. By the way, NEVER lubricate this cable. Quote Link to comment
