Reminder, I was in my teens for the Eighties so I didn't really listen to your much maligned Hall and Oates. Now i must say that Huey Lewis and the News rocks and I have apecial nostalgia for A-Ha, who I hated at the time for sounding too girly for me. My first album was Queen's day at the races and my second was Iron Maiden's Powerslave. My older siblings are so deep in the bay area punk scene that I'm positive RVD knows them and I have always had a clue as to what to listen to.
