EdwardK
Okay, everything is ready, I just need to plug the new switch in. I'll be honest, I can't make heads or tails of the wiring diagram for the ignition switch.. I need to know what the Starter power, starter solenoid, accessory and accessory power are supposed to hook to in reference to the plug. And also what the extra fifth wire is for? ____ |x | 1 | ____ | 2 |3 | ____ | 4|5 | I know 2 is supposed to go to the radio... Which I don't have....? I think 4 is my accessory power since it's run through the fuse box. 3 would be my ignition power? Not so sure about where 5 or 1 are supposed to go to. I feel a little stupid, but hey, I'd rather ask guys who know than just try it and burn the truck up, lol Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
. I don't know of any instance ever of any steering column locking on any car while driving. I had it happen, but it wasn't Nissan's fault or a design fault. I was moving a friend's 310 that had been at one time stolen, so the ignition had been "punched" out. Used a screwdriver to turn the switch, but the column lock was no longer physically connected to the electrical and the column lock ring spun into the lock position when driving and locked the steering. Fortunately on a side street. But it was a bit of a surprise. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Why are you re-wiring? Is something wrong other than a bad ignition switch? Quote Link to comment
EdwardK
Why are you re-wiring? Is something wrong other than a bad ignition switch? No, none of my local autoparts stores carry the ignition switches for these vehicles, and I didn't like the original setup anyway, so I set it up for push button. I'm not re-wiring anything, I've just made a new unit to plug into the original ignition switch plug. Does anyone know what that wiring order is? Quote Link to comment
GRpufnstuf
I'll have a look for that wiring order in my factory service manual when I get home from work tonight. It's '73 specific but it ought a be close or same? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
White is power from the battery + also to the fuse box. Power at all times. Black/Yellow stripe is start wire to the starter solenoid. On in START. Black/White supplies power to the fuse box in the ON position and also the engine. Blue/White power to the radio in the ON and ACCESSORY positions Brown/Red power directly to the coil + by-passing the ballast in the START position. 1 Quote Link to comment

I can leave the blue/white out since I don't have a radio correct? Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Probably- the wiring diagram shows it ONLY goes to the radio. 620s are one of the rare ones that ACC doesn't power the wipers and such, so I think that'd be OK. 1 Quote Link to comment
EdwardK
Wired everything up. I have power to everything, except the START switch. All my fuses check out, so unless there's a hidden relay or fuse somewhere I blew out, I guess I have an open somewhere between the fuse box and the START switch. I can hook the start circuit to the WHITE power and the starter turns the engine over, so I know that's all good. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Dmike for the win! Excellent! Thank you! . Thank-you, thank-you ... I'm here 'till Thursday. Try the veal. So did you get a replacement switch or is this push button start? Quote Link to comment

EdwardK
I've finally narrowed it down to the red/brown wire being the real issue. I think I fried whatever relay that is beside the radiator on the passenger side. Anybody got a part number for that thing and/or a method to test it? Quote Link to comment
EdwardK
Fixed it, forgot to wire power into the START switch. I cannot believe I somehow missed that. Truck seems to be running good now. 1 Quote Link to comment
