If you have the original OEM starter, they are completely rebuildable, if you can get the parts.  A lot of parts are common to the British MG engine Nissan copied.

Sometimes if a starter is working poorly, all you need to do is to get to the contacts the solenoid makes, clean them and the starter works again.

Soooooo I took apart the solenoid

I couldnt get into the valves because the wires were soldered shut.

So I soldered that off

I also had to clean it up a bit because it was literally black.

I soldered them back together after cleaning and lubing it.

We tested it out and it pops out and goes back in very easily! :]

Next thing to do is to put it back in and test it out!

I'll keep you guys updated !

Nice job!  I admire your willingness to just dive in, and see what you can do.

The starter may still have some issues when you get it back in, but you have learned a lot!

:) haha thanks man.

If it still isn't working properly I might just take apart the motor of the starter and see what's going on there.

Alright well today I didn't get a chance to put the starter in (it's going in tomorrow).

Today me and TheRedWrench cleaned my wheels!!! We were tight on time so we only had time to clean two.

(I'm putting on new tires soon. Apparently they had white lettering so that was a nice surprise.)

Alright quick on-the-go-update/mini to-do list:

Starter is in.

Fix the heater leak.

Connect temporary temperature gauge .

Connect valve cover breather hose

Take out the dirty fuel.

Oh and this is what my truck sounds like at the moment:

Keep up the good work!

I have the J-13 in my 66 520. I had to use Nissan Fork-Lift J-15 parts to rebuild it, but also got the benefit of larger intake and exhaust valves. The J-15 was used in forklifts until 1984, and the J-16 an J-18 were used in South America till somewhere in the mid 90's! The difference between how yours sounds and mine, is at the time I rebuilt it, I was living in San Diego, and a budy worked for Crower racing. He R & R'd my pistons and rods, while his bother custom ground a performance cam and lifters for the J-13! It actually has a "lope" at idle!  If you ever need to replace the rocker shaft, the MGB 1800 rocker assy fits perfectly! Mine was bad, and no replacements to be found. I had always heard that Datsun copied MG for the E and J series motors. But when I found out that the Rocker assy was Identicle!!! WOW!!

Good Luck!

I actually have a full set of these type of rims in 14 inch, I think they are hard to clean around the rivets.  :crying:

You can drive the rivets out from the backside to the front. Had them on my '90 back in the day and thats what I did when I polished the wheels. Then just drove them back in. Never lost any driving it as they're splined.
