q-tip
Like a cr500? More like an 80, it lies in wait then it hits the power band and tries to rip you nuts off Quote Link to comment
izzo
^^^^ THIS  I had a little CR80 man.... Christ that thing... It would rip my buddy across the sand at 60 and had room left on the throttle.... he's 250lbs! 1 Quote Link to comment
RatVonDude
Yamaha rds are loud, but the pumped out Harleys are louder than there 400watt stereo systems. Nothing is louder than a Chinese casino on wheels. Quote Link to comment

smoke
As far as dirt bikes go, I think the most 'off and on' power band of any of them I owned was an old Elsinore 250. Once you got used to it, it was fine, but that thing would go from being doggy to a rocket in like a millisecond. Quote Link to comment
dr.feltersnatch
↑ what he said. I had a 76 cr250. It was like a light switch. Quote Link to comment
smoke
My entire family were dirt bike riders, like everyone, even the grand parents and us kids would start riding before even entering grade school. I was the one black sheep in the bunch that rode 2 stroke stuff, I just liked them better. Over the last ten years or so, I have had mostly 4 stroke bikes, some really great ones. But just the other day, I rode my friends KTM 300 (2 stroke), I gotta say, I still like the 2 stroke better. It's all personal preference of course, maybe I just made sort of a muscle memory around those kind of bikes, it just feels better to me. Quote Link to comment
mikeanike99
My first two bikes were 2 strokes my first was a 78 Yamaha dt100 enduro loved that bike so much but had I sell it to pay for my truck and then my second was a 74 Yamaha ty250 trials bike which I absolutely hated bo matter what I did it wouldn't run right so I sold and now I am without a dirt bike until I can save up for my neighbors 84 xr80 Quote Link to comment
RatVonDude
I want a vintage husquavarna two stroke. Ever seen a maico? I think they well Brit built, the only street legal 2 stroke MX bits I can think of are bultacos, they made a 400 enduro. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Maico branded the "widow maker" nickname, with the 490, the old maicos were something else. The husqvarnas are good bikes, my buddies dad had an older 500, crazy fast. Quote Link to comment
smoke
I had a 490 Maico, it had the grace of an ax murderer. Quote Link to comment

smoke
Browns camp is awesome. I have ridden there a ton and still have only seen a fraction of it. Quote Link to comment

hobospyder
Love the kawi izzo. I've never ridden dirt bikes on trails, just the middle of the road. My first bike was an 05 ninja 636 that's torn up in my garage, New bike I got Friday is a 14 636 that I have to break in and it's killing me. Quote Link to comment
smoke
Don't do that slow break in thing (seriously) you need to throttle it, the end result will be MUCH better. Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
Book say nothing over 4k until 500. I been shifting at 4k but there's no way in he'll I'm riding on the freeway at 45mph at 4k in 6th. Trying to at least hold out until 100 miles on the odo before I really get into her, trying to make sure I don't foul up my gaskets, never had a new vehicle before Quote Link to comment
smoke
I have no idea why they put that in the book and most still do. Chances are, your bike has already been to full throttle a number of times by the very people who built it. A guy wrote a really good article on it a while back, with some really good stuff, I will see if I can find it for you. Quote Link to comment
