difrangia
Hello, All, Very informative group. Thanks to all. I'm starting to go back together with the '78 'Longbed' after doing a valve job with new valves. I have a question regarding the exhaust leadout(headpipe) seal to the exhaust manifold. I'm sure that you all know that I have the three bolt clamping flange that pulls the headpipe up into the manifold. My question is: is there supposed to be a gasket ring, sleeve, or wrap that seals the pipe flare to the manifold or is it just metal to metal. I had holy-rolling hell getting the headpipe out of the manifold on the teardown and there appeared to be no fibre or otherwise seal between the exhaust components. Thanks in advance. Eagle_Adam
does the down pipe have one or two outlets in it ? Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
No gasket or donut,, the compession fit does it , probably why it was hard to get apart , rusts together. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I think Felpro sells this Gasket if for the round type. ck out Rockauto.com and enter your yr rig and should have a photo of the part you need. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The '75 and up has a rounded bead on the end of the down pipe and about a 1/4" of the end sticks up into the exhaust manifold. There is a ring collar that has three bolts that draws the bead up tightly against the manifold. No gasket required. Quote Link to comment
