WooHooMobile
Hey all, Have lurked her for a couple of months, decided i should sign up as it seems like a fairly respectful forum. ( rare these days.) So I live Down in AUS, and have a few Nissan's '76 G60 Patrol, 88 Nissan Skyline Coupe But most relevantly... 2wd, L18, 5 speed, 560,000Km, Brown interior, currently on 15inch "sunraysia" steel rims. Have been slowly working on bringing it up to road worthy standards, and then have it put on classic vehicle permit, Main plans are fairly sedate, 1. a twin set of SU carbs, - direct fit from AUS delivered 180b SSS models. its currently running on LPG, (propane) so the SU's should be a huge upgrade. 2. Mag wheels, ordered and enroute from Japan. 3. A little more low, will wait til i fit the wheels, then torsion bar down the front. and lowering blocks to suit the rear. 4. Volvo 4 piston calipers, i have a set to suit thicker vented disks, and need to be directed to a thread where it has been done. regarding disk choices. etc. Might to a build thread if its worth reading. I am a fairly regular visitor to the U.S, with my next trip in June 2013 to visit family in OR, after a road trip from NYC, Toronto, IL, etc to Bend OR. any car shows or meets i should know about? or wreaking yards along the way, as there is always something to replace on these old trucks. Catch you all later. 1 Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Welcome man! It's good to see another one 'down under.' You guys got some cool stuff that we never got here in the states. Look forward to a build thread in the future! Quote Link to comment

WooHooMobile
Thanks Guys. I think that Patrol was made form like 1950's to the MK Patrol in like 1980. Shame i wont be In OR till late June. Any other meets or events in the north east and mountain areas? going by the members here, the North west seems to be the main Hot bed of Datsun truck activity... Ill try to put a build thread up sometime. i did a quick search but couldnt find a thread with info about disk choice with the 240 Volvo 4 spot brakes... any help? Quote Link to comment

iron_lungz
Those wheels are nice man thinking of selling them? Quote Link to comment
WooHooMobile
The rear wheels fill the guards pretty good, could use some bolt on spacers in the front i think. when my rims from Japan arrive and are fitted, would be happy to sell. Located in AUS remember... Yeh i Love the G60 Patrol, sadly its stuck in my folks back yard, rotting slowly, until i get my new sheds put up. then planning on a mild restoration and going back to a soft top canopy and fold down windscreen. The Skyline is my pride and joy, it also cant wait to get into a new shed... Quote Link to comment
WooHooMobile
Been quite a while since my last post. I had a great trip over there in the states the other month. ended up buying a 240z while i was there... anyway, the rims for my ute finally arrived, they are in great condition for the price. the offset is a little weak for what im wanting, but that can bee fixed with some bolt on spacers later. I have just Emailed an ebay guy for a price on shipping some belltech drop spindles and 4inch blocks for the rear. am i getting to C notch territory on the rear rails? Quote Link to comment
WooHooMobile
Ok, thanks for all the feedback thus far. Got my box of Stuff from summit the other week and only in the last few days had the opportunity to fit them. Beltech 2005 drop spindles and a 4inch lowering block kit for the rear. The Spindles were fitted with relative ease, the wheels came millimeters away from fouling on the lower control arms. I may still look at getting the thinnest bolt on spacers i can for the fronts, there isn't much spare thread on the studs, the center of the rim is quite thick. The rear blocks went in quite well too. having a hoist and a spare set of hands is great. Now the PROBLEM The installed front spindles are now causing all kinds of toe out problems. I'm no geometry enthusiast but maybe 5deg toe out on each side... Is there D21 parts i should fit? tie rods? two tire shops i called said they wouldn't touch the truck to fix some thing that out, lazy SeaHunts... There appears to be a threaded tube between the tie rod and tie rod end, chopping this rod down and replacing should allow enough adjustment to bring the front true. I'm off to the wreaking yard today to see what i can find... In the pic you can just see the toe out. the other side must be way worse... Quote Link to comment
WooHooMobile
Ok, so have been driving around in the 720 for a few weeks since the lowering took place. Ill touch on the problems i mentioned in the last post 1st. (Mainly for the info of the next guy attempting this) This pic shows the amount of toe out i had in the front end, despite the tube being tightened all the way. (this is with the steering wheel set straight ahead.) Just trying to back the pickup out the driveway was hard, the angle of the front wheels felt like the tires were being pulled off. This is a pic of the actual tube im talking about, Its got dual direction threads cut inside, so if you tighten it with a wrench, it pulls both sections of the steering rack end towards its centre. So i cut about 10mm from the outer Tie rod end, and about 5mm from each side of the threaded tube. almost instantly i saw that this fixed the problem... and i roughly dialed the front wheels in by running a piece of string crossing the centre of the rear wheel to the fronts. this allowed the car to be driven to the local tire shop for a thorough alignment, There was still a bit of front wheel scrub at full lock, but the tech at the tire joint thinks he can eliminate all that if i have some adjustable caster rods made up. So i drove it around a bit, and headed out to this yearly event held just up the river from where the Australian Tennis open is played. https://www.facebook.com/classicjapanshow https://plus.google.com/photos/113432889999220868273/albums/5952360177549643137?banner=pwa Most of the cars that attended. We mainly took the 720 to Barbecue out of the back. after that my buddy took a sweet set of pics of the truck. After driving the truck at highway speed, i realized pretty fast that I've lowered it too much. Its on the bump stops... looks cool but rides like total shit. So I'm thinking ill have to get smaller lowering blocks, and possibly a pair of these. http://bossairsuspension.com.au/product/nissan-navara-2wd-airbag-suspension/ I don't think i could C notch the frame enough, ( without messing with the bed) to have the truck this low, and still have enough suspension travel to be useful. Especially as my current plan for the truck is to re power it, and build it to be a half competent tow vehicle. opinions? Quote Link to comment
wayno
4 inch blocks are tough, looks good, but hard on the frame, and if you get a flat, and have 14 inch rims, the lower shock mounts will hit the ground. :( Most of us remove the bump stops, but as you said, not really useful as a truck anymore. Quote Link to comment
WooHooMobile
Ill pull the bumpstops out when i get a chance. im assuming ill then have an inch or so of travel before hitting the frame, so it may not be a good idea... Quote Link to comment
wayno
This is what mine looked like before I notched the frame, it was hitting all the time, and I wasn't hauling anything, this was with 4 inch blocks. This is what it looks like now, but I have 4X4 leafs on it now, 2 inch blocks, and I welded on 520 front leaf mounts which are a little more tighter to the frame. 1 Quote Link to comment
WooHooMobile
decent amount of fab work needed i see. I would probably buy a full air ride kit and install before i took that much out of the frame. Thanks for the photos, Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the photos, I actually am planning on dropping the back at least another 3 inches, so I needed to cut that much out, that will leave me about 4 inches of travel left. I also plan on making a bracket to remount the stock bump stops, but this project is just a learning project, I will have learned a lot when I am finished with it. Quote Link to comment

WooHooMobile
Yeah i know what you mean. There is an Australian company that has set up a bit of an English Portal into the Yahoo.jp auctions. so you can at least search and dream. they probably could organise shipping to USA or GUAM if required. http://www.importmonster.com.au/ Quote Link to comment
