Mirrorimg
The 240sx driveshaft is still attached to the transmission? I dont recall having much trouble removing mine, but it was a tight fit, if I recall, removing the bolts. Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
No the truck's driveshaft is still in there, I just pushed it up over the tail of the transmission. I need to remove the small section of the driveshaft that looks like its being held on by 4 10mm bolts. I remember those bolts being super tight and almost rounding one off. Can someone reassure me that it is those 4 bolts to remove it? Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Yes, pull the 4 bolts from the flange and the forward section comes off. You might take this opportunity to convert your driveshaft to a one piece setup and get rid of the carrier bearing. Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
awesome, I'll pull that today and properly bolt up the transmission. A 1 piece would be awesome, but way too much $$$.Yesterday i did pick up a 12'' and 16'' fan from one of my friends race truck. Free FTW! So I'll also start mounting the KA radiator. TheRedWrench
Its been a while because I got punched in the face by life.Lost my job, got bummed out for a while, but now I'm back! I have the 240 radiator mounted with the 16 and 12 inch fans, found radiator hoses that would work, modified a 4 rib belt to do a single belt mod, and just sent out the drive shaft to be shortened.I was going to get a one piece drive shaft, but to do that, I have to get a 3in shaft..... and that makes it a lot more moneys! My carrier bearing has a small tear in it, but im thinking of filling it a bit with window weld to make sure it doesnt come apart later on. I also bought D21 calipers to start piecing together the disc brake setup Now all I need is the fuel pump (if someone wants to chime in and help that would be great) figure out how what sensor I need to turn on the fans in 2 stages and wire this baby up! It was also really cool seeing a couple of Ratsun guys at mile square last week! Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
FINALLY another update! you know how life is, always getting in the way of your hobbies.Luckily I've had a lot of help from my new Ratsun family. ON TO PICS! the bed of the truck is full of parts, including the shortened driveshaft that needs to get placed in asap (note the brakes in there too) I finally put on beebanis disc brake brackets, cleaned and painted the rotors/calipers with the help of my lady friend. Radim gave me his old 3in blocks, and i got new U-bolts (still need to adjust the torsion bars up front) I found a craigslist bargain for these Chevy wheels 15x9. will have 195/60/15 all around AND i need to get rid of the rebuilt radiator (since its useless to me) it will be getting posted up sooner or later also decided to get organized and started to make a to do list Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
Ok so its been a bit.... but im damn close now!The Chevy smooth wheels I had wouldnt clear the caliper.... crap.Ended up getting 15x8 steelies from Summit, as well as MT-90 gear oil.DONE LIST:drive shaftshifter install fuel pump mounted/wiredbled clutch and brakes adjust torsion bars bought electric fan controller and radiator hose adapter NEED TO DO: finish the 90% of the wiring (i'm confused a bit about the lower harness that connects to the transmission and alt/starter) find out what the hell is going on with the rear brakes, and temperately fix it till i have enough monies to buy new everything FIND ANY L SERIES SPEEDO COG finish installing factory tach.make intake mount battery in bed install fan controller put in coolant re-weld center link thing...get new rod ends sea foam and change oil install turn signals other odds and ends and yes, I have oics Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
oh one more thing, I also opened up the core support a bit to get better use out of the stock KA radiator 2 Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
lookn good! how much did the drive shaft shortening cost you? Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
what tranny are you running? If its the KA trans how much did you shorten it? Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
I'm using the KA trans. The driveshaft company I used came down to my place and measured it up. There were some complications due to a 'new guy' so they had to cut it twice and never got an accurate measurement. Honestly, I don't like the way it sits right now. Its pulling the carrier bearing more than I would like. Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
Awesome update! I got her running!!!!Well, not without the HUGE help from schicksal! Still need to block off all the vacuum leaks that i caused by removing the egrAlso need to finish making the intake so i can see if it will idle on its own or not.I really hate letting it run with open headers though. Now on to oics! First off, I installed air shocks so i have SOME rebound now.I also finished reindexing the torsion bars and also added low profile bumpstops up front.C notched rear will come in the future, till then, I cant hit the frame in the rear thanks to the new shocks :) I also went to Homedepot and found a random can of spray paint that looked like it would match pretty well.... And its not too bad actually! Much better than the black at least. I was also able to pick up a L series speedo cog.... I really should have remembered what color it was.... crap (just realized this now) I was scared of my expensive MT90 gear oil spilling out..... so i did this :) At least it worked! Grill with emblem will be put on soon enough, and I'm hoping Erich will help me weld new tabs onto the bumper (since the KA rad blocks the stock location) I also was able to dig this up form my old phone. This is the donor car the KA came from. It's now LS powered..... Im thinking I might want to take the LS off his hands too lol 1 Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
This is more of an update for myself.Today (just now) I finally got this KA running properly! All it took me was 10 months and more money than I would like to ever add up!Im so excited that I can start getting this thing ready for Canby and ready for me! I got some BEAUTIFUL Mazda 3 heated leather seats ready to go in and I'm going to design the interior off of the seats!I also just got a NEW full time job for a company making monster truck parts.Im going to see if I can design and build my own roll cage (because drift truck) All the dirty work is pretty much done! Now its all about maintenance and modifications to make this thing MY OWN! Canby or bust! Quote Link to comment
MantisX620
What offset are those summit wheels? Looks perfect for a 620. Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
What offset are those summit wheels? Looks perfect for a 620.-19 Still have to run a bit of a spacer to clear the calipers Quote Link to comment
MantisX620
Thanks for that. Makes my search less nail biting lol. Just wondering, what made you do 195 on the tire as opposed to something wider? I was thinking 205/50/15 for whatever I found. In any case, cool build so far! Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
I did want just a wee bit of tire stretch without it looking 'hellaflush' or whatever. I went to a used tire place and had them put on a junk tire for $10 on one of the wheels just so I could make sure I would like how it looked. Quote Link to comment
MantisX620
Perfect. This truck will be awesome with all the effort being put in. Subscribed. MantisX 1 Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
Drove my KaKc 620 around the block for the first time in 11 months since I started the engine swap!I didn't even get out of my driveway and someone already gave me the head nod of approval! Then again it currently is running open header lol!A huge thank you to the Ratsun community!I'll post a link to my build thread in the comments. This thing has a long way to go! More oics to come soon once the exhaust gets done! 2 Quote Link to comment
cobra269
Looking good, and great work! Patiently awaiting the finished (although a ratsun never gets finished, always something) product! Quote Link to comment
TheRedWrench
Welp.... its been about 7 years since i've update this.... I bet you all thought that this project was parted out and never finished... (thats usually what happends) But for the 7 of you that still exist, here is a little update...... I didnt upload to ratsun due to the photobucket lockedown years ago. and I was more excited to have a working truck that i didnt think about uploading. Soooooo, you may have seen my MAAD620.... you can find it on Youtube, or Amazon where its used as a display photo for ponretro's front lip. or maybe youve seen it at Walmart, where JADA toys made a model of my truck (even put my name on it) This thing has been running perfectly. I did go coilovers up front and got the KA rebuilt. Im now an advanced tech for Mercedes, so I had enough $$$ to buy custom built wheels from Love20bee. My instagram is Fredwrench . i'll likely never post here again....... but it was cool to re read my own thread 🙂 Much love to all my OG Ratsun fam.
