Janksun
While I drive my truck, 75 620, there is always coolant leaking out of my overflow tube, there is no tank, should I be worried or should I just check the level every couple days to see if it's low or not? Quote Link to comment
Tristin
If youre seeing coolant coming out of the radiator then obviously its going to get low at some point. Id look into why theres coolant coming out... Quote Link to comment
DeviousPsycho620
/\ Good point. Is it getting clogged? Thermostat getting stuck? I'd probably rig up a tank too. Quote Link to comment
RBs30
thatll make your coolant drop.. engine gets hot, temp and pressure in cooling system goes up, cap bypasses into what should be an overflow tank. engine cools down, coolant system fills back up from overflow tank... no tank, wont fill back up. just stick the other end of the tube in a bottle or something and save the fishes and trees.. i used a jd bottle  coolant is a bit rusty :hmm: Quote Link to comment
Janksun
Hopefully an overflow would solve my problem :D Quote Link to comment
kelowg
Test or replace rad cap. Coolant should only come out if rad full, cold and engine warms up expanding coolant. So after it warms up and drive again from cold no more coolant should come out. Recovery tank is nice to have. Rad stays full, no need to ck level constantly. Quote Link to comment
nismosilvia
You guys ever run dishwasher detergent through the radiator to clean it? Quote Link to comment
DeviousPsycho620
No. I run mineral free water in mine. Cuts down on deposits. Quote Link to comment
Tristin
You guys ever run dishwasher detergent through the radiator to clean it? Dishwasher soap wont do much for the rust/corrosion that builds up. If you want to to do a heavy flush I would use something like CLR or citric acid. Really though, you shouldnt let it get to the point where its not clean after a water flush in both directions. Quote Link to comment
Guest Rick-rat
Sounds like a new radiator caps in order Quote Link to comment
RBs30
A lot of old timers use vinegar to clean out thier system Quote Link to comment
racerx
overlfow is a must..and use some kind of prestone or somekind of radiator flush. Quote Link to comment
Dawa
A lot of old timers use vinegar to clean out thier system ive considered doing this, but heard (read) something about the vinegar eating at the lead solder in our copper/bronze radiators? obviously the longer the exposure the more deterioration. im probably gonna let a gallon of vinegar sit in my rad within the next week for a day perhaps, im sure all will be good. Just ask A-Gang for a gallon of citric acid next time youre on the boat... they use it to clean out a lot of the equipment in the machinery spaces like the CO2 scrubbers. Quote Link to comment
RBs30
Never had a problem using vinegar. Works pretty well unless its clogged to shit. Dirt cheap for a gallon or two.. always my first option Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
Old redneck method was a cup of Tide and a garden hose. I've used it before and it seems to work. Quote Link to comment
Janksun
It's only $40 to have it cleaned out at my local radiator shop. Quote Link to comment
Dawa
^ thats not bad. i havent found a rad shop yet to be able to ask, but do yall know if shops offer refinning? Quote Link to comment
